20.01.2022 If you’re reading this you must be taking breaths. It’s kind of a requirement of living... but are you ACTUALLY breathing? Quite often our breath is short and shallow, we only breathe into the upper third of our chest. This type of breath keeps us in a fight or flight mode, our bodies are constantly releasing cortisol, the stress hormone, and as a result we feel overwhelmed and tired. No one needs that, life is already hard enough right?... Breathing deeper into our bodies means our diaphragm contracts down, stimulating the vagus nerve. When your vagus nerve is stimulated, it sends a message back up to your brain telling you to relax. And lots of wonderful things happen when we relax. We sleep better, we digest food better, we reduce inflammation in our bodies, we are better equipped to deal with our emotions, and we get along better with loved ones. So take five minutes. Lay on your back. Breathe. Breathe through your nose. Breathe deep into your pelvic floor. Let your torso expand in every direction, 360 degrees. It might not have been what I was hoping to capture, but in reality, this moment right here was perfect because it had sunshine and puppy love
