17.01.2022 LEAN // Loving this photo that my beautiful friend Antoinette just shared with me, with her little Ezra and our horse cot sheet sets. It reminds me of a recent article that I read which touched on the Japanese concepts of Muda, Mura, and Muri. The article's main focus was lean manufacturing and how elimination of waste is one of the most important goals. I won't go too much into the details of what these concepts mean but just lightly in passing - Muda refers to wastefulness,... Mura refers to imbalance and Muri is overload. Eliminating all three will allow you to really focus on lean and sustainable manufacturing. Ironically, eliminating all three will also help you shift into becoming the best parent you can be. In more commercial terms, the work of our Jaipur artisans is exemplary of what lean manufacturing should really be about. No heavy machinery, no overloads of huge volumes, no over production, no having the wrong tools to do the job, no over-processing. There is so much simplicity in their art, and the yet the end result is so intense and beautiful xoxo See more

16.01.2022 PEGS // How many of us really think about what kind of pegs we use on the washing line? Even as an advocate for sustainable textiles and artisan crafts, this is an area I have never given much thought of until Best Pegs sent me me a generous bag of pegs made of 316 marine grade stainless steel wire. Founder, Meredith patiently educated me on the benefits of stainless steel pegs and her regular investment into an independent testing programm to make sure these pegs are indeed ...316 marine grade and not 201 or 304 which are prone to rusting. Her packaging is totally on point too as these pegs come in a beautiful reusable cotton draw string bag and packed in a home compostable satchel! I was blown away by her commitment to sustainability and eco-design. Similar to how Baby Peppers was conceived, Best Pegs was also born out of frustration at the poor quality of plastic clothes pegs available for purchase. Meredith is committed to educating consumers on this small but critical change to find an alternative to plastic pegs that are not recyclable and pollute our soil and waterways. And to help you get sorted with #plasticfreejuly, she is giving my followers 10% off their first purchase. Use babypeppers10 at your checkout and she also offers free shipping Australia wide. Thank you so much for helping us make this seamless switch! Aimee Dow

05.01.2022 CREATIVE // Storytime with all three has been a bit of a challenge lately, especially with a teething bub but as mums, we just soldier on right? We have been reading Sam McBratney's 'You're all my favourites' which has helped me feel less guilty about not being able to divide my time equally between the kids. Earlier this week, I had so much fun recording with the beautiful Seilyn Diaz of The Mom Podcast, as we discussed about all things life - before and after kids and fi...nding time to nurture our creative passions. I loved Seilyn's thought-provoking questions about the artisans we work with and there was one question in particular which deserves a mention as I believe it will be highly beneficial to anyone wanting to support artisanal communities abroad. Seilyn asked what are the three things I could share with people wanting to know more about artisanal communities in developing nations and how we can all get involved in some way. I elaborate on these in the podcast and would love your thoughts on them as well. https://apple.co/38rlkqU to list to the podcast! I'd love to hear from my little community here on how you have been supporting various artisanal groups and perhaps some of the highs and lows of working with these communities abroad xx p/s thank you to the gorgeous Maka Atanasov of Corinella Candles for generously gifting this handcrafted soy candle -the beautiful Tahitian Lime and Coconut scent for some reason brings me back to our wonderful time in Hawaii. Desperately hanging for our next travel adventure! : Aimee Dow of The Between Photography

03.01.2022 ROOTS // One of the questions asked during my recent podcast interview with Enlightenedhood really shifted some paradigms for me. The beautiful Leena Lemos asked 'how has connecting back to my roots really changed me as a person'. In contemplating this, I realise that connecting with my roots through my business has not changed me fundamentally as a person but it certainly has been an inflection point in both my business and personal journey. It has stroked my creative flame ...and made me so much more curious and intrigued about reviving lost artforms. It has led me to sleepless nights researching on centuries old methods and techniques which have been sustainably practiced for at least in the last 3000 years. It has led me to the wonder and excitement of knowing that virtually any design can be carved onto wooden blocks derived from the sweet-smelling Indian Rosewood. It has reinforced for me the importance of a transparent and ethical supply chain. On a personal level, connecting back to my roots gave me a sense of purpose. I pride myself of my Indian heritage and the rich history of Indian arts, literature, textiles and the fact that indigenous communities in India were practising sustainability long before anyone even heard of the term, and they have an excellent understanding of true biodiversity. I would also love to know what it means for you to connect to your roots, whatever form that may take xoxo See more

01.01.2022 RAINBOW // Shining a brilliant spotlight on one of the key artisans behind my label. This is the gorgeous Sailoung Mannion of Rainbow Mannion Creative, an exceptional textile designer and illustrator who is always brimming with ideas. The Australian flora and fauna hand illustrations on our bamboo blankets and the Animals of India quilts were painstakingly drawn to perfection by Sailoung, and our wood masters in Jaipur have carved the beautiful illustrations onto Indian rosew...ood blocks. The mustard kookaburra blankets were so popular, they were the first to sell out. True to her name which means Rainbow, working with Sailoung literally felt like the pot of gold at the rainbow's end. She executed her design brief flawlessly and kept in touch regularly to show me the progress. She was patient and understanding with my vision and valued my opinion on colours and concepts as we brought the designs into finalisation. In honour of #ShopSmallSaturday, I urge you to thoroughly inspect your value chain, connect with the key artisans behind each stage and show how you can support them in the best way you can pre, during and post production xx See more
