16.01.2022 October is International Miscarriage and Pregnancy Loss Awareness month. We have a message from our CEO, to touch on this important topic: We feel very privileged at Baby Spa Australia to be able to offer support to many parents. Often that is just a listening ear for those long days of taking care of a baby, living off little sleep and loads of caffeine. At times the support is a lot more personal as you share with us about loss and the heartbreak that follows. ... Every journey of pregnancy is unique. I went through the long harrowing process of IVF to conceive my first child. My pregnancy was extremely difficult as I struggled with Hyperemesis gravidarum. The toll it took left me with so much trauma that I was unsure if I ever wanted to conceive again. A feeling many HG sufferers can relate to. It was extremely bittersweet as I had so longed to be pregnant and was so grateful I finally was, but was so crippled by my sickness. I was very grateful to deliver a healthy baby boy who is now a very clever 6 year old. After finding the courage to get pregnant again, I was actually so pleased to see those two lines. I had already started to feel unwell but told those close to me, as I knew they would be so excited we were pregnant! The morning of my 6 week scan I had experienced some unusual cramping, but everything looked good on the scan. That afternoon the cramping intensified and I started bleeding. I knew I was having a miscarriage. The week that followed saw me have more appointments and to scans to confirm what I knew was true. Sadly, this was only 2 weeks ago! I hadn’t experienced a miscarriage before and it was quite an isolating experience. No one really knows what to say, and that’s ok, but I hope sharing my story can help break down the stigma attached to it. 1 in 6 pregnancies ends in miscarriage or pregnancy loss. Each journey different. Each loss hard. Be kind to those going through it, offer an ear for support, assure them they did nothing wrong. Drop off a meal, send flowers, make sure they know that their feelings of loss are valid. This to all those who have experienced miscarriage or pregnancy loss, I am so sorry! Breanne
