23.01.2022 Knee Pain Helped with Osteopathy Because the knee is a weight bearing joint, knee pain affects almost everything we do that requires mobility, including those things most of us have usually taken for granted. Routine activities of living, work, social and recreational activities are often limited or avoided because of knee pain. A person with a bad knee knows how often it gets in the way of doing the things they want and need to do in daily life. Knee pain can be caused by d...irect trauma to the knee from falls, over-use or impact sports injuries, motor vehicle accidents, poor alignment /muscle imbalance, congenital weakness, disease, and age related wear and tear. Whether a knee condition is acute (injury related) or chronic (wear and tear related) the importance of getting a good diagnosis and receiving the proper treatment cannot be understated. An Osteopath can be an invaluable resource in the diagnosis and treatment of your knee condition. 15.01.2022 What is Osteopathy? Each person, condition and injury is unique so osteopathic treatments will vary from person to person. Our experienced Osteopath Mark will ask questions about your problem and symptoms. He may also ask about your medical history, any medications you are taking, as well as factors that may not appear to be directly related to your problem.... Osteopathy takes a holistic approach to treatment, so he may look at other parts of your body, as well as the area that is troubling you. For example, if you have a sore knee, Mark may also look at your ankle, pelvis and back. Osteopathy is a manual therapy, so hands-on treatment may include massage, stretching, repetitive movements, mobilisation and/or manipulation. Most osteopathic treatments are gentle and should not cause undue discomfort. If your injuries do require hands-on treatment of painful and tender areas, Mark will exercise care to make you as comfortable as possible. He may also provide education and advice to help you manage your condition between appointments. This may include giving you exercises to do at home or work. Osteopaths treat more than you think. They focus on how your skeleton, joints, muscles, nerves, circulatory system, connective tissue and internal organs function as a whole body unit. 09.01.2022 STAGE 4 RESTRICTIONS UPDATE In line with the DHHS Stage 4 restrictions, from 6th August - 13th September Back Active Healthcare will continue to operate but operations will need to reflect the new criteria stated below for each patient’s appointment. All AHPRA registered health practitioners can provide care if in the absence of, or delay of this care, would result in a significant change/deterioration in the patient/client’s functional independence necessitating escalation o...f care (e.g. a requirement for specialist input/review, an increase in care needs, avoiding a hospital admission or emergency department presentation). Prescreening of clients will be mandatory for both COVID risk and meeting the urgency criteria stated above. Routine or non-urgent treatments are NOT PERMITTED. A GP referral is NOT NECESSARY for osteopaths to see a patient, however the patient must meet the above criteria. We, and all allied health practitioners, have been asked to pass on and support the core messages of why the lockdown has occurred and assist in reducing any movement and face-to-face contact as much as possible. It was made quite clear to us that DHHS expect primary contact practitioners to be active leaders in reducing the spread of coronavirus. We are committed to helping Melbourne’s COVID situation and thank you for your understanding.

08.01.2022 COVID UPDATE At 11:59pm on 27 September 2020, Victoria moved into Step 2 of the Roadmap to Recovery. This easing of restrictions enables osteopathic practitioners to now provide face to face services for a number of additional clinical indications.... For metropolitan Melbourne: Osteopaths can now provide face to face services to: prevent a significant change/deterioration in functional independence which would result in an escalation of care needs (e.g. an increase in frequency of treatment needed, an increased need for prescription medication due to a significant increase in pain, requirement for specialist input or review, an increase in care needs, and/or a substantial increase to anticipated recovery time associated with a delay in receiving services) provide assessment and diagnostic services to clients/patients whose care has been delayed as a result of Stage 4 restrictions, with any further delay likely to result in deterioration in functional independence or adverse health outcomes (including access to diagnostic imaging services or assessment for prescription of assistive equipment and technology) provide services that are essential as part of a broader plan of care with a medical practitioner (e.g. fitting a brace post-surgery) provide services that are part of a conservative management plan to avoid or delay elective surgery (as agreed with treating team) provide services immediately following elective surgery that prevent secondary complications or aid functional recovery (as agreed with treating team). Routine care is not yet permitted. We are committed to helping Melbourne’s COVID situation and thank you for your continued support and understanding.
