24.01.2022 Did you hear the one about when the horse walked into the bar? ... That will actually happen this Monday 5th August, on Backroads at 8pm on ABC1! Heather Ewart and the team caught up with some of the Back Block Bards family out at the Furlong shearing to talk about Bush Poetry, the BBB fundraising campaign and life in the Western Riverina! You’ll also see a horse ridden into the Merriwagga Black Stump Hotel, plus Pat O’Sullivan of the Hillston Spectator, Bimbo Lees and the ...drovers and a heap of awesome stories from the Hay to Hillston district! So please check it out and let us know what you think!

06.01.2022 $100,000!!! Very proud and excited to announce the Back Block Bards have reached a total of $100,000 donated to the Dementia Australia Research Foundation! This incredible figure would not be possible without the incredible support we have received, to everyone who has contributed, donated and offered assistance through to every person who has enjoyed our books and CD of bush poetry. Thank you to everyone!... As part of Dementia Australia’s 2019 Dementia Grants Program, the ‘Back Block Bards Project Grant’ is one of the Research Projects currently running throughout 2020, investigating the biological basis of Cognitive Reserve, a protective property of the brain known to delay the onset of Dementia although little is known about the mechanisms of how it works. With greater understanding, these protective mechanisms could be harnessed as a way to delay the onset of dementia. Also thanks to the Back Block Bards family and committee for their work so far, we have loved every bit of the campaign and have more exciting projects on the way! Please feel free to get in touch with the page #backblockbards
