21.01.2022 2021 is here and we're right in "new year, new me" time. To be successful at anything ask yourself these questions: Are your goals specific? "Getting fit" is not a goal. ... Do you have a plan? How are you going to achieve your goals? Are you using a PT? Are you joining a gym? Are you writing up your own programs? Is there smaller goals along the way? When working towards a larger goal it's easy to become complacent. Set smaller targets along the way so your always working to a new goal that is achievable in the short term. Are you prepared to work through any hiccups? No one is perfect so don't let minor set backs compleyely derail your motivation. Get back on the horse and go to work. How important is your goal to you? It doesn't matter if your goal is small or large, if you're not 100% committed to your goal you won't see it through. 16.01.2022 Yeeeeah lockdown cool, whatever. Positive Friday post: This bloke here is as loyal as loyal comes. Rod has been in the Back Yourself Fitness system since 2015. He was one of the first clients to sign up to our original studio and has been coming week after week. He's trained with both trainers and you'll never hear him say things like: "This is too hard"... "It's too hot" "A bloke my age couldn't do this" "I can't do that" Without fail on every new exercise you'll hear him say: "Well I'll give it a go" He is the epitome of what it means to Back Yourself. 12.01.2022 A fun little experiment I ran a couple of clients through this week was: Take my stronger deadlifters, strip the weight right back and get them to actively use the correct driving muscles. Why? Foundational strength! If you can activate muscles under minimal load and just by using the old brain tank you've got a better chance of creating that muscle memory.... The brain to muscle connection is such a powerful tool because your body will turn on whatever muscles are easiest when put under increased load/stress (see most "heavy" deadlift videos uploaded to insta). What's your goal for deads: Use the right muscles? Or Lift as heavy as you can? Either way you need a strong foundation #deadlifts #backyourselffitness #backyourself

Laying on an incline bench it gives you the ability to focus on shoulder ROM without much core focus.... Background: 3pt row. 04.01.2022 Want to really test your shoulder ability? Seated shoulder press on a flat bench. Why is this harder? Without the use of a bench to push into or the ability to stand when doing shoulder press, your body has to stabilise using only your core and your shoulders themselves.... Can you push as much weight doing shoulder press this way? No. Does anyone care? Also no. Stability work on your shoulders and on your core will actually help improve your heavier moves. For every dollar raised @sam_pont_ has been doing a pull up and @brownie_backyourself has been pushing the weight sled 10m.
