15.01.2022 Huge Congratulations to Karen Heap and Ted Lovett becoming 2019 Victorian Aboriginal Honour Roll Award winners . Very prestigious honour to become part of the Victorian Aboriginal Honour Roll for their contribution and dedication to the Victorian Aboriginal Community . For our much loved CEO Karen Heap an emotional recognition award as her own mother Valma Heap won the same award years ago . She would be incredibly proud of the strength of character of the daughter she ra...ised . Karens dedication and hard work for Victorias Aboriginal Community dominates her life almost 24/7 and many dont realise how many hours of commitment she puts in to do her job for Not just Ballarat but for the whole Australian Aboriginal Community . She is CEO of BADAC, Chairperson of the Board of Directors for Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation and On the Board of Directors for NACCHO the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation. Her workload is huge and her hours are sometimes earlier than 6am heading off to meetings and she can be returning home at 10pm at night , yet she still fits in time to deal with community personally and never puts herself first and has a day off to catch up . We dont realise how lucky we are to have her . ( I have been her Executive Assistant for 4 years and in that time she has not had one day off on sick leave in all that time , that is just an example of her commitment to her community ) Congratulations Karen Heap a well deserved recognition award See more

12.01.2022 LEST WE FORGET OUR TRUE ABORIGINAL HISTORY In 2019 Descendants of Aboriginal Light Horse riders remembered their ancestors. The Australian Light Horse Associat...ion state director Barry Rodgers said at the time that the association wanted to recognise the role Aboriginal troopers played in World War I. "They were wounded and they won medals," Mr Rodgers said. "They were brilliant horsemen and extremely good soldiers. There were well over 1000 of them that served and they didnt get much recognition." In 2020 it appears the Government and their agencies have forgotten the connection Aboriginal people and our ANZACS had with their horses and how that is a big, important and deeply spiritual part our combined Australian History and Culture.
