24.01.2022 Handy Tip # 7: Integrated Pest Management. Do you know what the insect in the photo is?.....If you said a termite, you'd be wrong. It's a book lice pupae. The reason I ask is that many people are still happy to call a 'pest controller' with out even knowing what the problem is. There is a big difference if you want a healthy household especially if you grow a few veges. The reality is that we all have insects around us every day, to attempt to wipe out every insect would not ...only be impossible it would have a serious impact on our fresh fruit and vege industries as well. A good pest manager will knock down infestations and reduce insect activity but will always let you know that there is no controlling pests. There are numerous publications on good bugs these days as well as free online government info on pests in certain areas, so do yourself and your family a favour and do some research before calling fumigations-R-US. Oh and just one more comforting bit of info, if you think your house is free of cockroaches, just have a look in the sewer or septic next time you get a chance..... See more

12.01.2022 Handy Tip # 8: SQUEAKY FLOORS: If you have teenagers, then a squeaky floor is probably a good thing to alert you to those late night attempts and visits from so called "just friends". If you don't, then they can be a real pain in the ear. The best way to fix a squeaky floor is generally to put an extra fixing (nail or screw) through the board into the floor joist. if there are no joists available under your squeaky board, you can simply put a bit of talc into the gaps between the boards to provide a temporary stop to the squeaking. As for the teenagers, you may be better off with a dog....
