21.01.2022 This article is an honest, and powerful reflection on the juggle (and struggle) of being a working mum, and the impact this can have on maternal mental health. However it left us asking some questions. Where was Jessica's husband while all this was happening? Where was the balance and the support? One parent should not have to carry the load (work, mental and emotional) of raising children, when there are two parents in the family. We need to be asking more of our partners, to prevent mothers from burnout and to ensure equality in parenting. https://www.businessinsider.com/type-a-mom-have-it-all-me/

14.01.2022 Ten years ago, I was working with the Red Cross when the Victorian Bushfires hit. I remember walking out the door on Friday afternoon and asking my colleague who worked in Emergency services, So what do you think is going to happen tomorrow?, to which he replied, Either nothing or Armageddon. As we now know, for many Victorian families and communities, it was unfortunately the latter. Our Managing Director, Tammy, Schlitz, reflects on the recent bushfires, and what Austra...lians can do to help in an ongoing way. https://www.balancedeffect.com.au/news/after-the-fires/ #australianbushfires #philanthropy #charity #makeachange

11.01.2022 I’m so proud to have been involved with the official launch of the kindness initiative Here for ya Mate. This initiative encourages local communities to come together and support people who are going through a difficult time with simple things like giving flowers, babysitting, gifting a massage or even a small get away. Thanks to the extraordinary Ros Rondel and to CWA Rosanna branch for making this happen, to Susie Byrne for donating over 70 works of art and for the 75 people who came to the gorgeous Earthbound Bolton cafe in Eltham to support last night. May you all spread the kindness and show your community that we’re all ‘here for ya mate’. #kindness #hereforyamate #gratitude #cometogether #simplethings #balancedeffect

06.01.2022 "Author Annabel Crabb says it all in a sentence, The obligation for working mothers is a very precise one: the feeling that one ought to work as if one did not have children while raising one’s children as if one did not have a job. While it is understood that this is immensely stressful, some plans help keep this stress at bay." The juggle is real! But there are some excellent suggestions here about how employers can support working parents. Creating flexible work conditio...ns to support parents can be easy, once you start thinking about it. What flexible conditions helped you return to work after having children? https://www.babygaga.com/how-employers-can-support-working/

04.01.2022 After a five year career break, with her eldest children in school, Angela started working at a charity who offered flexible working hours so she could start work after the school run and have time to collect them from school. Now, she runs her own company, which allows her to work from home. While this article is written from a UK perspective, there are a lot of similarities that could be applied to Australian workplaces, enabling parents to have better work life balance. Wh...at does flexible working conditions mean to you? What would make the juggle of being a working parent easier? https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk//flexible-working-for-mum #workingparents #flexiblework
