18.01.2022 Broccoli sprouts are a concentrated source of sulforaphane, a phytochemical that boosts phase II liver detoxification, along with a whole host of other health b...enefits. Growing your own broccoli sprouts is really easy, just follow these simple steps: -Place broccoli seeds in a large wide mouth jar, or a special sprouting jar or tray. Add cool water and soak for 12 hours in a cool dry place -Rinse and drain the seeds. Store in the jar or sprouting tray in a dark place for 3 days, rinsing and draining 3 times per day -Place in indirect sunlight for 2-3 days, continuing to rinse and drain 2-3 times a day -Harvest when most of the sprouts have turned green You can eat your broccoli sprouts raw in salads or sandwiches, add them to smoothies, blend them into a dip or add to stir-fries at the last moment. If you start a new batch of broccoli sprouts every few days, you will have a continuous harvest available to enjoy!
17.01.2022 Balanced Health will remain open and we are here to help you through this. There will be some changes that have come into place so that we are following directions by our professional bodies to keep you and your family safe. These changes are only short term and we will return to normal once we all get through this. I will still be seeing you as normal, but it won’t be face to face. It will be done via your preferred method of Phone, Face-Time, Skype or Zoom. We must f...ollow government and professional body direction at this stage which is why we must avoid face to face consults at this time. You can still come and collect items, but you will have to phone ahead as collection will only be able to occur during certain times. We can post anything you need, so again phone us on 0755991339 or email me on [email protected] and we will get what you need posted. There may be some delay in getting products in and posted to you. Many of our supplies that are normally able to deliver next day are up to 7 days behind. Which again is out of our control, but we will try and get them to you as soon as possible. When it comes to immune support there will be out of stocks. Some will be out of stock for a few weeks others may be out of stock for months. Again, I can help come up with some alternates to keep you and your families as healthy as possible. Other than that I’m hoping you are all staying safe and healthy, and if you need any immune, sleep or nervous system support right now just let me know.
17.01.2022 IS STRESS MAKING YOU FAT? We have always known that weight gain can be attributed to stress. It has only been in the last decade that we have really been able to understand why. Have you ever wondered why some people can eat the right number of calories and exercise regularly but still find that they cannot shift weight? Stress can affect the body in a myriad of ways. When you are stressed you crave more food - foods that make you feel happy and give you more energy. Thes...e foods tend to be high in calories and sugar which is the last thing your body needs. A recent study at Leeds University was conducted on stress levels in relation to weight gain. Subjects were put through a trial where they measured their blood sugar levels throughout the day. They were tested on different days to see how their blood sugars compared from days when they were put under stress against days when they were quite relaxed. The results were astonishing. On a normal day when the participated ate food the blood levels returned to normal after around 30 minutes. However, when put under stress the same candidate ate the same meal and their blood sugars took 3 hours to return to normal. That’s six times longer to return to normal. When you are stressed you produce a flight fight response which increases the availability of sugar into the blood stream so that you can react to stress by either fighting or flighting. However, for most of us we are stressed at work, home or sitting around so we don’t burn off this sugar. When we don’t burn off this sugar the body the stores it as energy which is where it will be converted into fat stores. So, what can you do to help? Be more aware of your mood and what is causing you to stress, can you change any of the circumstances or the way you react to it. Try exercising later in the day rather than the morning to burn off the sugar and re-regulate your blood sugar levels. Avoid foods that are high in sugar and carbs when you are stressed, they are only making things worse. Learn relaxation techniques that suit you e.g. walking, art therapies, yoga or meditation.
17.01.2022 A young Melbourne man who was critically ill with COVID-19 and suffering early stages of blood poisoning made a remarkable recovery after being given massive do...ses of vitamin C, leaving doctors amazed. For years, orthodox medicine has engaged in denialism regarding the evidence showing the health benefits of vitamin C therapy. It is good to see the boundaries starting to come down. 15.01.2022 Update on how we are going to manage the clinic during the CONVID-19. But keep in mind things may change as we go along based on advice from the Health Department and our Governing Body. If the following three points include you please contact reception and we can still do your consult, but it will be via Skype, Zoom, Face-time or old-fashioned phone call at the stage. Products can then be posted or collected by someone else. Have returned from overseas in the last 14 da...ys. Have been in contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the last 14 days. Have fever or symptoms of acute respiratory infection If you are one of my immune compromised patients or elderly patients a consult via Skype, Zoom, Face-time or Phone would be the safest for you. This remote way of doing a consult is available to everyone if you prefer it at this stage over a face to face consult. Products can be posted or collected by someone else. At this stage we will stay open and I will continue to do face to face consults. We have increased our cleaning of the clinic and encourage everyone to use the hand sanitiser on the counter upon entry to the clinic.

12.01.2022 Not all omegas are equal! Scientists suspect that a high intake of omega-6 fatty acids, relative to omega-3, may promote several chronic diseases. For patients ...looking to optimise their omegas and reach the right ratio, consider: Avoiding vegetable oils high in omega-6 (and the processed foods that contain them). Eating plenty of omega-3 rich foods, including something from the sea at least once or twice a week. If needed, supplement with a high-quality omega-3 source like fish oil. See more
12.01.2022 $5k is a small price to pay to help people avoid chemotherapy if it is not needed and it certainly costs the government a lot more than $5k to administer treatment in unnecessary cases.
12.01.2022 Great food for thought right now.
10.01.2022 Great easy tips
10.01.2022 We are back to business as usual with seeing people in the clinic, however there are a few changes. Phone and video consults will remain for those who prefer this form of consultation due to preference or health reasons. Due to the new social distancing rules if you could wait outside the clinic and I will come and get you to reduce the number of people in the waiting room. ... Best to phone ahead to check if we have your supplement in stock before you head down as there are some "out of stocks" or delays with deliveries.
09.01.2022 Clients can still come across the border if you have an appointment. Just show the police the SMS you received from us when we confirm. Otherwise for NSW we can do a virtual consult. Health funds are covering phone consults at this stage if you are covered for Nutrition. Again if you need supplements from us let us know and we can either post them or we can SMS that they are ready for collection. We are classed as medical treatment. See below.

08.01.2022 For about 2 million Australians, migraine is a significant and debilitating condition. Susceptibility to migraine is normally inherited, with certain parts of t...he brain adopting a seemingly hypersensitive response to certain stimuli. The pain nucleus of the trigeminal nerve becomes spontaneously active and pain is felt in the head or upper neck and blood flow in the face and scalp increases reflexly. 03.01.2022 While the news of increasing COVID-19 cases in the US and parts of Europe is dire, there does seem to be a growing body of evidence that certain plant extracts ...and supplements such as vitamins D and C may provide some hope in lessening the severity of the virus. 01.01.2022 How Can You Help Your Immune System To Cope with Coronavirus? Unless you have been living under a rock you would have been bombarded with media about the Coronavirus. Is it something we should all be panicking about? No, but will it affect a substantial amount of the population, the answer would be yes. Unfortunately, in this case we are still learning about the virus and how it affects our health, so we are all running blind to a degree. What we do know is that the virus ...has particular markers which allow it to attach to the lung tissue, and once there it can replicate and cause disease until your immune system can come up with a plan on how to manage it. For some people the immune system is very good and can get on top of it quickly whilst for others it can take longer which can lead to more issues. Therefore, older people or people with a compromised immune system may be affected more by the disease than people with a healthy one. So, what can you do to help yourself? First, make sure you are getting the basics right. Wash your hands and try to avoid touching your face. The only way the virus can enter your body is by you breathing it in or you touching you face if the virus is on your hands. Are you getting to bed on time and getting enough sleep, or are you burning the candle at both ends? How is the diet? Try to reduce the sugar’s in the diet as sugar will suppress the immune system. Just try and focus on a wholesome diet with lots of nutrient dense food and avoid as much processed food as you can. Exercise! Don’t coup yourself up at home. Try get out into the fresh air and keep up your walking and routines. If you are worried about hitting the gym or classes, try working out in a park or at home. If you love fragrances, burn essential oils around the home like citrus, lemon grass and eucalyptus. Vitamin C, Zinc, Garlic and Mushrooms have always been good staples for the immune system to help support and boost the immune function. Herbs like Echinacea, Andrographis, Cats Claw, Olive Leaf and Elderberry are also very good for your immune system and will help reduce the severity and duration of the infection but always check that it is safe for you to do so. As some of these herbs can interfere with certain medications and need to be avoided in pregnancy.
