25.01.2022 Recently during Golden Time our Year 3 and Year 8 buddies had the opportunity to connect and bond with one another. Vertical interactions and positive relationships are so important for the Balcombe Community and it was wonderful to witness how much our students valued spending time together. The Year 8s were fantastic role models, displaying the school values of Compassion, Inclusion and Confidence throughout the afternoon with a game of 40/40 a tiggy, hide and seek game. The smiles on everyone’s faces said it all!

24.01.2022 Last week, as a House activity, children in the Primary were challenged to identify as many maths concepts as they could in their garden or local area. Using one photo, children had to find and record as many features as they could find. The results are: Norman - First, Leaver Second, Casey Third and Weston Fourth. The winning entries from each class will receive their certificates in the mail in the coming days. Congratulations to everyone who took part, it is amazing where maths can be found!

22.01.2022 Even the heavy rain could not stop our Class of 2021 coming together today to enjoy the annual Year 12 Retreat. This cohesive group engaged in a wide range of activities, further strengthening their connections with family, staff and each other as they begin their journey together for their final year at school.

22.01.2022 Happy Father’s Day. Father’s Day is an opportunity to remember and give thanks for the Dad’s or significant other male role models in our lives. For some families it is a time to celebrate and thank their Dad, Stepdad, Grandpa or Pop. We hope our Balcombe families have had a very special Father’s Day.

21.01.2022 As Term 3 concludes, we would like to take this opportunity to wish the entire Balcombe community a safe and restful holiday period.

16.01.2022 In Year 3 this term our students have been learning how to write a Finding Tale with an adventure plot. Within this task, they have been learning how to use and apply writing tools such as speech, alliteration, dramatic fronted adverbials, show don’t tells and rhetorical questions. This unit of work grabbed the imagination of our young writers and allowed them to publish their own work online. With the easing of restrictions it was wonderful being able to hold onto many of our traditions. With our resident DJ and some fun activities it was a lovely way for them to farewell formal classes. We wish them all the very best for their upcoming exams.

07.01.2022 An enthusiastic group of primary students and families joined Ms Simmons for this week’s BGS bake-off wellbeing activity Chocolate Chip Muffins. While we cannot confirm that all the choc chips made their way into the mixture, one thing is for certain; the cleaning up this week was not a chore! By all accounts the muffins were delicious and very soon disappeared. Next week’s bake off will be Hedgehog Slice.

06.01.2022 House spirit was clearly on display during our recent House LEGO competition. We had some very creative entries based on the theme of springtime on the Mornington Peninsula. Congratulations to all participants!

04.01.2022 The Primary Book Week Parade is a major highlight on our school calendar each year for both students and staff. This year we are doing things a little differently and throughout the week all Primary students have been given an opportunity to send in a photo of themselves dressed as their favourite book character or use the provided software package which enables them to insert a photo of themselves into their favourite book setting as a character. Students have been very creative with their images and have enjoyed learning new skills. All entries will be combined into a Virtual Book Week Parade which will go live at 2.00pm this Friday 18 September (please refer to the Week 10 Primary Wellbeing Activities form for the access link).

04.01.2022 Balcombe Grammar School would like to introduce our community to Clancy, the Story Dog. Through donations and the work of volunteers, Story Dogs partner with schools to provide a reading support service to Primary School students. Students along with an Accredited Handler (Learning Assistant) can read a book to Clancy and this in turn helps the children relax, open up, have fun and encourages them to become confident, lifelong readers.... The program is designed for students who may have reading challenges or require confidence to enjoy the wonderful world of books. (Parental consent will be sought prior to students participating in the program.) We look forward to Clancy visiting our school once a week to help with our reading program. https://www.balcombegrammar.vic.edu.au//StoryDogs_Brochure

03.01.2022 It was a rewarding day for the BGS Debaters who performed brilliantly yesterday in another online debate! While they went down by a mere 3 points in the Prepared Debate, they were triumphant in the Unprepared Debate. Congratulations go to Renae who was Best Speaker in the Prepared Debate and Lauren who was Best Speaker in the Unprepared Debate. A very talented team and we thank all six team members (Nina, Alex, Charlotte, Lauren, Renae, and Jolei) for their hard work.

02.01.2022 On Wednesday evening, Lachlan Wallace (percussion teacher), held an online percussion recital for his students. It was a wonderful way for students to continue engaging in performance, share live music and for families to connect during online learning.
