24.01.2022 Thanks Sports Central! A great start to what we expect will be a clear plan for the club for the next 5 years. A big thanks to all that attended, including councillors Councillor Des Hudson and Peter Eddy for Ballarat along with Ballarat Council CEO, Evan King.... 13.01.2022 Ballarat's Matilda update| Last night the Matildas returned to home soil with an emphatic and entertaining 3-1 win over Brazil, a significant improvement from their loss to Ireland last month. Switching from 3 at the back to a 4-3-3 formation was pivotal in allowing both Carpenter and Catley to attack and key to that was the deployment of Kyra Cooney-Cross in the number 6. This is the first time she has played in this position for Australia, and we can't remember her ever pla...ying there in the W-League either. However, it does demonstrate the importance of intentionally developing versatility in junior players. When with the Victorian National Training Centre, who play Senior NPLW, Kyra was seen as a really promising attacking player but in attempt to round out her game and develop her more holistically she was deployed, by the coaches, as a defensive midfielder - this versatility has been pivotal in her growth within the international set up with Matilida's coach Tony Gustavsson singling her out for praise after the match. It's a good story to remember next time you, or your child, is asked to play in a unfamiliar position - maybe the coach isn't losing their mind but instead has identified an area for development that would be best addressed by the challenge of playing elsewhere on the park and who knows where that prioritisation of long-term development over performance could lead? https://www.theguardian.com//matildas-sweep-aside-external
