25.01.2022 Over the last two weeks our Middle School students participated in their first ever Minor Games House event. The event consisted of a Round Robin competition with several minor games played. Well done to all of the students who participated. 25.01.2022 Our music students have been making the most of their time at home, busily practising their instruments and working on original music pieces. Adele Grodzki (Y11) recently composed her song Somethings Not Right as a part of her VET Music Industry unit, which she has entered into the nation-wide Triple J Unearthed competition. VET Music Industry student, Tom Jenkins (Y11), has also kick-started his music career on Spotify, where his original works are available for listening.... Izzy Farrah (Y8) has been quietly achieving in the Take the Mic Australia competition. Izzy recently performed an original song in the State Finals, which has seen her progress to National Finals. This is a wonderful achievement, and we wish her the best of luck for her final result! We are so proud of our music students for their determination and motivation to succeed in achieving their hearts desire. 25.01.2022 We are proud to announce that for the second year running, Clarendon has been awarded Secondary School of the Year (non-government) at the annual Australian Educator Awards. Clarendon also received an Excellence Award for Primary School of the Year (non-government). 25.01.2022 Congratulations to current student Chloe Shieh (Y10), who was selected to take part in a violin masterclass at the Monash University String Day over the weekend. The masterclass, hosted by Melbourne Symphony Orchestra concertmaster Sophie Rowell and musician Anna McMichael, was an opportunity to learn valuable skills from industry professionals and meet like-minded musicians. 23.01.2022 Our Y2 students have been studying plants in science, and recently carried out an experiment to show how water is transported through the stems and leaves of celery. The students did a fantastic job of documenting their experiments, and its wonderful to see their hard work and determination to learn continuing at home. 22.01.2022 Our Prep students recently completed a fish and chips art project, where they designed their own fish, dinner plate, chips and lemon. The rowing camp is always a great opportunity for students to solidify the technical components of the sport, whilst building their endurance and Clarendon spirit. 18.01.2022 This week some of our Y9 students have been enjoying camp at Cape Bridgewater. Over the last few days the students have been participating in surfing lessons, canoeing, hiking and several other recreational activities. The Cape Bridgewater Camp experience will provide students with an opportunity to further develop their sense of identity, refine their understanding of relationships and learn more about their peers. #heartsdesire #alwayslearning

18.01.2022 Today our Nine10 School held a ‘coin line up’ to raise awareness and funds for victims of domestic violence. Each House competed to create the longest coin line, of which all coins will be donated to WRISC Family Violence Support. WRISC aims to promote respectful relationships through services which enhance the safety, autonomy and wellbeing of women and children. The students explored how emotions can be expressed in an abstract way through the use of shapes and lines, and their work has been compiled into the following Cubist portrait gallery exhibition. 17.01.2022 Over recent weeks our Junior School students have been remotely participating in weekly physical education challenges. The challenges encourage students to send a picture of themselves exercising, such as riding their bike or skipping with a rope. These activities are a great way to for the students to keep active at home whilst staying connected with each other. 16.01.2022 Our Maths Methods Unit 3&4 catch-ups have continued virtually via Microsoft Teams every Friday at 8am. The sessions, organised by David Parker, enable students the opportunity to ask for help on queries theyve had during the week. The voluntary catch-up sees up to 20 students attend each week all year round, and it has become so popular with regular students that a special badge was created to acknowledge their commitment. Its fantastic to see our students keeping up with their weekly routine through online means whilst maintaining their motivation to continue learning. #heartsdesire #alwayslearning

16.01.2022 Recently our Y9 LOTE students participated in a unique learning opportunity where they taught each other aspects of grammar and vocabulary from the respective languages they are studying. Working in groups of three, the students studying German, French and Japanese taught each other numbers, pronunciation, accents and script, just to name a few. The students enjoyed gaining an insight into teaching and learning another language whilst demonstrating pride in their own language skills. #heartsdesire #alwayslearning

16.01.2022 Last week our Senior School students were inspired with a visit from Old Collegian, Stefan Nigro (2014), during their online assembly. Stefan spoke to the students about his professional soccer career and how Clarendon enabled him to pursue his passion of the sport from a young age. The students were grateful to learn about the various pathways available to them whilst gaining an insight into the professional sporting world and the importance of setting goals and believing in yourself. 15.01.2022 Congratulations to Y10 student, Adam Jirik, who was recently named in the Victorian U18 Baseball Team for the 2021 Showcase Series. 11.01.2022 Traditionally, our Y12 Studio Arts students would be filling the studio space in the Visual Arts Centre with Final works. A big thank you to the overwhelming support from parents, who have given up their living spaces to accommodate their children. Working from home hasnt deterred the determination and work ethic in creating skilfully executed artworks, which demonstrate the artistic talents of our students. 11.01.2022 Over the weekend our Junior School students and families were encouraged to participate in an Amazing Race Challenge. The challenge required students to exercise by either walking, running or riding around Lake Wendouree whilst completing 20 Amazing Race questions. Concluding at the iconic Clarendon boatshed, families then took a photo of themselves to celebrate their Amazing Race achievement. 11.01.2022 The 2020/2021 rowing season is well underway, with our rowers already participating in sessions on Lake Wendouree. The entire rowing program trained remotely throughout Term 3, and were excited to compete in their first regatta last Saturday. 11.01.2022 Our Y3 students enjoyed participating in experiments during their science classes this week. The students learned about the nature of light, how it travels and how it interacts with different mediums. During their experiments, they focussed on reflection and refraction, using lights, mirrors and tin foil. 10.01.2022 Over four art lessons our Y6 students were given the task to create a fish that focused on contrast between pattern and type. The students were also asked to create a complementary colourful under the sea background scene using either watercolour or pencil. 09.01.2022 Old Collegian, Stewart McSweyn (2013), has been officially named in the Australian team for the Tokyo Olympics. He has been selected in both the 5000m and 10000m races. 08.01.2022 Congratulations to our Y12 Sports Leaders Zoe Cowan, Brydi Hutchinson and Gabriella Fitzpatrick, who have been selected as 2020 Australian Olympic Change-Maker Award recipients. The Australian Olympic Change-Maker Awards recognise students who demonstrate the Olympic spirit through leadership and driving positive change in their communities. Last week Zoe, Brydi and Gabriella attended a virtual forum to hear from Olympians about what makes a great leader. The students felt inspired by the forum, learning about positive thinking, participation and personal growth. Most importantly, they found that the greatest leaders are not always the best in their team or sport, but are people who are dedicated and motivated to always do thier best. 06.01.2022 Today our 2021 Year 12 cohort participated in an all-day conference in preparation for their studies next year. The conference provided tips on effective note taking, use of flash cards, practice questions and time management. The students also heard from Old Collegians and current staff Matt Olver (2009), Tom Nash (2010), Tessa Armstrong (2013), Ruby Parry (2013) and Chelsea Byrne (2016) about their journeys through Year 12 and pathways following school. We are excited to introduce our 2021 Year 12 cohort to their final year of schooling and look forward to watching them progress towards the next stage of their lives. #heartsdesire #alwayslearning

Our Y11-12 trick-shots have been compiled into the following highlights reel, and will be judged by teachers Ebony Bromley and Kirsty Walsh. The students were inspired by the artistic style of Jonathon Yule, a Canadian graphic designer, and used their Adobe Illustrator skills to manipulate letters into a robot shape. 03.01.2022 Our performing arts students have been working hard this term. Last week some of our students participated in several online soirees whilst our Unit 3&4 VCE Music Performance students will present VCE Music Afternoons LIVE each Wednesday from 3:30pm for the rest of Term 3. Our VCE Dance students have also participated in a soiree to familiarise themselves with performing in front of an audience in preparation for their upcoming practical examinations. It is wonderful to see the students passion and initiative to create these performance opportunities for themselves.
