24.01.2022 There's going to be a beautiful birthing workshop at Acorn & Oak next Monday and the Monday after, run by magical birth workers, all for a bargain price. Come along and check it out!

24.01.2022 This month at Red Tent- It's the last month of darkness but as the days are getting longer, it's a good time to reflect on the past 12 months and to start our plans for next year- it's getting-ready-for-spring month! Think on your plans for the past year. Did they bear fruit? Are there new things you need to focus on? What needs to be let go or stored for another time? Find one thing that will be this year's priority. Think on whether it involves your spark- the thing that brings you into flow-space. September is a good month to do your spring cleaning- to throw open the windows and blow out the dust and cobwebs- this applies equally to your diet and your house.

22.01.2022 SHE WAS BEAUTIFUL.... .... but she didn't know what that meant. When she was a little girl ... they told her she was beautiful but it had no meaning in her world of bicycles and pigtails and adventures in make-believe. Later, she hoped she was beautiful as boys started taking notice of her friends and phones rang for Saturday night dates. She felt beautiful on her wedding day, hopeful with her new life partner by her side but, later, when her children called her beautiful, she was often exhausted, her hair messily tied back, no make up, wide in the waist where it used to be narrow; she just couldn't take it in. Over the years, as she tried, in fits and starts, to look beautiful, she found other things to take priority, like bills and meals, as she and her life partner worked hard to make a family, to make ends meet, to make children into adults, to make a life. Now, she sat. Alone. Her children grown, her partner flown, and she couldn't remember the last time she was called beautiful. But she was. It was in every line on her face, in the strength of her arthritic hands, the ampleness that had a million hugs imprinted on its very skin, and in the jiggly thighs and thickened ankles that had run her race for her. She had lived her life with a loving and generous heart, had wrapped her arms around so many to to give them comfort and peace. Her ears had heard both terrible news and lovely songs, and her eyes had brimmed with, oh, so many tears, they were now bright even as they dimmed. She had lived and she was. And because she was, she was made beautiful. ~ Suzanne Reynolds, 2019 Photo credit: Nina Djerff Model: Marit Rannveig Haslestad

17.01.2022 This beautifully illustrates one of my favourite sayings- do what YOU can do!

16.01.2022 I'm going to do a spontaneous guided meditation tomorrow night, at around 8.30pm. It will be a bit of a mashup of a few things, including bits of Miranda Gray's Womb Blessing, which focuses on increasing your beautiful creation energy- perfect for this time of reflection and decision making on what you'd like to take out of this winter of isolation! If you'd like to receive the energies Miranda Gray sends out, register for the Womb Blessing here https://wombblessing.com If you would like to, have ready- -A glass of water -A little doll to represent your maternal ascestral line- you can whip one up tomorrow, use one you have already or find something that will do the job temporarily- Barbie with a fabric shawl totes looks like your great great nanna! -A length of white string or ribbon (long enough to tie around your doll)

15.01.2022 Breath of fresh air Pathogens that cause respiratory infections usually travel in the air- think about coughing, sneezing, and in my daughters case, blowing ras...pberries- big puffs of air propel the microscopic pathogens away from the infected host where they can then be picked up by new hosts. Some land on surfaces to later be wiped onto your face by your unwashed hands, but some are caught mid air, breathed in to land on the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract. So be aware of how clean your air is. The most effective air cleaners are sunlight and more air, so open the windows- back to Florence Nightingale. The UV in sunlight breaks down the bonds holding the virus together, fresh air dilutes the air, so there’s a decreased chance of the virus landing on your squishy mucous membranes. If there is a risk of airborne pathogens, open the windows at least once a day, even if it’s cold or not sunny, so the fresh air can circulate. It doesn’t need to be all day, just enough for the air to move around, but the longer the better. If you can open a second window and a door so the air can blow through, and leave them open all day all the better. Externally vented exhaust fans can do the job as well, especially if there’s also a window or door open. Remember adequate ventilation is important in cars and any other enclosed space that might have someone’s germy sneeze in it. There’s talk of using essential oils to kill viruses and yes, some have demonstrated good levels of efficacy for that purpose- the fatty nature of both the oils and the virus membrane means oils can readily penetrate the virus and make a mess of things- but it’s tricky to replicate test conditions in the home or office when you’re talking about effective amounts of airborne constituents. Some of the oils best studied in vapour tests, on viruses, are Cinnamon, Eucalyptus (particularly E. Globulus), Melissa, Rosemary, Tea Tree and Geranium, and some positive things have come out with specific blends of these (notably Thieves Blend) so these may have some effect, and blended together they have a lovely smell that can create a pleasant environment, which is really important. However, nothing has been tested specifically on the new COVID-19 virus, if that’s what you’re focussing on, so let’s not bet our toilet paper stash on the essential oils taking out all the viruses midair. If you are using oils as part of your routine, make very sure you are using pure essential oils- breathing in concentrated fragrance chemicals is going to give your immune and detoxification systems unnecessary distractions from their virus fighting work. For this reason, opening the windows for at least a few minutes each day is also valuable in terms of letting various off-gases and volatile chemicals clear out- so diffuse oils or smudge the place if you like, but every day, open the windows and let the air through. -Jodi

15.01.2022 PSA- I tell pretty much everyone who comes to see me to have magnesium baths- most commonly for muscular tension, anxiety or for helping them (or their children) get better sleep. Today Aldi have magnesium chloride for the ridonkulously low price of 2kg for $10. Go go go!

15.01.2022 Tent is on this weekend! Come and have a cup of tea with us

12.01.2022 As the wheel of the year gains momentum in it’s descent into the quiet months of winter, we start to think about readying ourselves for cold and flu season (yes..., and the looming threat of COVID-19) I’m going to do a couple of quick posts over the next little while about what you can do to help better the odds of you and yours staying healthy and happy. Most viral infections are actually given to ourselves as we pick up pathogens (microscopic things that cause disease) from surfaces by touching them with our hands and then transferring them to our nose, mouth or eyes. The warm, moist surface then gives the pathogen the opportunity to access to the body and start multiplying. Fun times. So the first step is the most important, fundamental and deceptively simple. Wash your hands. Seriously. Wash them. With plain soap and warm water, rubbing each hand against all surfaces of the other hand, for a total of 20 seconds. Long enough to sing Happy Birthday twice. Florence Nightingale knew where it was at. Appropriate hand washing is the simplest way to minimise the transfer of contagious diseases. You don’t need antibacterial soap- studies have shown it to be no better at decreasing the bacterial load than traditional soap alone. Antibacterial soaps decimate the native populations of bacteria on your hands, removing that first line of defence against bacterial invasion, AND it’s a disaster for the health of not only ourselves but also our waterways, so please stop using antibacterial products wherever you can- they’re awesome for bacterial infections, but keep them out of your personal hygiene products. When you arrive in a new space, wash your hands. If you sneeze, cough, prepare food or touch animals, wash your hands. When you go to the toilet, wash your hands- yes, you can use a clean hand towel to turn off the tap afterwards, but even if you have to turn off the dirty tap with your drippy hand, the net effect is a decreased pathogenic load. Most importantly, wash your hands, and your children’s hands, as soon as you get home. 20 seconds with soap and warm water. I’m really bad at remembering this one so we’re trying to do shoes off and hands washed. Think of a way to help fit it into your current routine- maybe after you hang up you bag or put your keys down- you can do it! -Jodi

11.01.2022 Have you ever noticed how much better you feel after walking the lake?

09.01.2022 lols browser issues! I'll be live as soon as I can sort that out! Grab a cup of tea and a glass of water and I'll be live asap

05.01.2022 This is a great clip to demonstrate to the little people the importance of hand washing. The problem with viruses is that they are so tiny we cant tell if they're there

04.01.2022 How are you going? For me, the novelty of doing something different is wearing into grooves of acceptance, interspaced with flashes of anxiety. This article has some great advice on getting your head around things- and the importance of taking the time to do that. Otherwise, your limbic system gets stuck in panic mode (which is where the urge to horde toilet paper comes from) and it's very hard to be productive from that point!
