23.01.2022 More termites..... This time in an office. It takes a good size, healthy termite colony to produce reproductives often called alates. These lines are flight holes chewed through the timber and paint to allow thousands of flying termites to take flight.... When this occurs indoors it usually ends up with a full vacuum cleaner and a lot of freaking out by out clients. When this occurs outdoors you see the sky filled with thousands of flying termites often attracted to light as it gets dark. The classic is seeing many of them caught in cobwebs which we can also help resolve. With RID Pest we'll inspect, report, and take the best course of action to stop these naughty nibblers eating your home or office! If you've got them, we'll get RID of them!

23.01.2022 It's bird season! We're dealing with a lot of this at the moment. Birds are really getting stuck into nesting at the moment. Areas adjacent to farm land are experiencing the usual spring time thing with Starlings being the pest bird most commonly encountered around Lucas, Alfredton, Bonshaw and Sebastopol.... They can show up anywhere however we find those in our sprawling outskirts suffer the most. Here we found a starling nest with 6 eggs and a whole lot of nesting material. Bird mites were also present and treated. Got Starlings? Get RID and we'll proof entry points, treat for bird mites and remove any nesting etc.

22.01.2022 Termites in flooring right here! Can you spot them? We're working at this property where we've been baiting termites through the winter.... To encourage feeding we've used blankets to insulate the bait station and surrounding flooring... When we removed the blankets to check and replenish the bait station we caught these little naughty nibblers hanging out just below the clear coat. They don't eat the clear coat on the floor boards but because they've eaten all the timber bel...ow it, a window of sorts exists and we can see them marching about! Got termites? You need RID Pest!

20.01.2022 Well we all know it snowed today! Wasn't it spectacular? Sadly weather like this prevents us from completing many types of jobs. We thought it'd be a good opportunity to explain how you just might see us as scheduled! It is actually against the law for us to complete sprays and external treatments if it's raining, snowing or even if there are strong winds!... We assess this on a day by day basis and our technicians complete a risk assessment before pulling the trigger every single treatment. 17.01.2022 How cool is this.... Praying Mantis eggs with tiny baby Mantis emerging. We spotted this on the wall of one of our clients in Cardigan. Have you spotted some of these egg sac clusters on your walls?... Not everything needs to be controlled! We enjoy educating and showing the kids these sorts of things.

16.01.2022 It's so common for us to get a call for possums in the roof where our client is absolutely shocked to learn that all the noise was in fact rats! Our technicians are pretty good at asking questions and establishing the culprit before they even get in the roof and when they say I think it's rats the client still isn't convinced.... So when we jump up there and when we find something like this the look on their face is often priceless. Not sure what's happening in your roof? Get... RID to check it out and we'll sort it out! Take a close look at the wiring of this down light and you'll see where rats have gnawed away at it! We can only speculate this was a desirable spot to hang out for the little bit of warmth generated by the light. 13.01.2022 Spot the possum! We found this fella asleep in the foam box on the bench in the background here. We named him grumpy, the brush tailed possum.... These guys are incredibly determined and well adapted to urban living and almost always choose a roof void or man made structure over living in a tree or in the bush and we think they out number people some days! If you've got possums you need RID!

12.01.2022 Termites are really starting to get active after a few months of cool weather. Yesterday we discovered where these guys snuck into this structure. It might be hard to spot but there was a garden bed built up on the external wall.... Termites built a mud lead or shelter tube up the side of the Slab edge, behind the fibro wall Sheeting and got right into it.... Can you spot their entry point on the internal photos as well? 11.01.2022 Here we are out in Beaufort doing an often under appreciated bit of work. Installing termite management to a new build! We installed a chemical impregnated sheet material to the slab edge under where the frame will sit.... Doing this as part of a Termite Management System affords peace of mind and protection for no less than 50 years!... Why wouldn't you have have a termite management system installed during construction? it just might save you from a lot of stress in many moons time! If you are building in the Pyrenees Shire you MUST have termite protection installed in order to obtain an occupancy certificate! Sadly in Ballarat Council areas you aren't required to although if you ask us... You'd be silly to think there aren't any termites here.... Rest assured without protection your home is at risk! 10.01.2022 TERMITES!!!! Here is a termite mud lead we found this week under a house in Canadian. You'll notice it's suspended mid air... So the question is... Did termites build up or did they enter somewhere else and build down?... We know the answer.... But please take a guess. Termites are fairly determined and are capable of getting in almost anywhere and for an insect that is typically underground they sure spend a fair bit of time above ground!!

06.01.2022 Termites are becoming more active as the weather warms. We've seen a number of swarms already and there will be more to come. What is a swarm? In really simple terms it's a reproductive flight of winged termites, called alates. This is how termites spread and start new colonies.... Sadly if termites are swarming internally in your home like they did from this door jamb it represents very bad news. Got termites? Get RID.

06.01.2022 Our guidelines for covid safe say we aren't to accept a cuppa or cake or anything from our valued customers during these times. I had to make an exception to the rules for our clients 4 year old birthday cake.... No friends to visit, no birthday party and all she wanted to do was share some left over cake with me. 06.01.2022 Building or planning to build? Insist on RID Pest for your termite management system. The first step in stopping termites sneaking in and eating your most valuable asset is this.... pre slab pour.... This step is about the penetrations or pipes in the slab.... Did you know as concrete cures it contracts and so there's typically a small gap around service pipes etc. Termites can sneak up this gap and attack the house in such a stealth way. In a couple of weeks we'll be back on site to complete the second step. A termite management system from RID Pest is expected to last 50 years! You'd be crazy not to!

04.01.2022 If you ever see something like this on your walls.... Call RID Pest immediately. This is a tell tale sign that termites are inside. They've packed out some mud to cover off holes they've chewed through plaster. Whilst termites don't actually digest plaster they do chew through it and use it as building material for their workings. It's hard to see in this photo but there are specks of white plaster throughout the mud used here.... Other than some minor damage to a skirting board there was no other evidence of termites in this property in Creswick!

01.01.2022 Here is a story that occurs right here in Ballarat! Scarily we've been involved in helping multiple clients who've gone with the attractive offer of a combined building and pest inspection! In 30+ years we're yet to see a 'jack of all trades' who excels in both areas! We don't pretend to be building experts after doing a few days of a course. But building inspectors appear to do this!... Want our best advice? Do not put your trust in a buildinf inspector to know what termites are all about. Trust RID for specialist termite inspections!! We know our region, we understand what to look for, we know the species of termites in our area and the unique behaviours and habits of them. We actually know what a termite looks like and best of all we are licensed to actually manage a termite infestation. PS: In Victoria a vendor and agent must disclose termite infestations past or present! DON'T Risk your biggest investment and believe agents words when they say things like 'I've never heard of termites in Ballarat' it's simply not true! DON'T Risk your new home with a combined inspection! Get two independent assessments. 01.01.2022 Possums are a little naughty at times. Here we have an example of the damage they can do. We're looking at the back side of a plaster wall where they've been gnawing and managed to break through. The second shot if the preferred sleeping location of the culprit a little further up the wall to rest on a noggan.... Could you imagine this being the wall behind your bed? If you've got them, we'll get RID of them!
