25.01.2022 One of the visitors to my stand at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show over the weekend was young gun shearer Mitch Emmlin. He competed in the intermediate division in the speed shearing and placed 3rd in the final. Well done Mitch - what an asset you are to the industry!

23.01.2022 Despite our business name, we sometimes provide veterinary services for goats. Great fun working with this herd today - they all had names like Pocahontas, Ruby Rose, Sahara, Shiloh & Saturn to name a few! These hobby farmers made my life easier to restrain the goats for blood sample collection by having a homemade raised headstall with ramp

19.01.2022 Bad news and good news The bad: Im no longer taking time off to visit my elderly parents in Queensland The good: Our lab is remaining open for worm egg count testing ... Please call ahead for instructions on how to safely deliver samples See more

19.01.2022 We offer bulk worm egg count tests as a service. It is a very useful tool to monitor the level of worms in mobs and an important part of an integrated worm control program. The result when considered with other information such as body condition scores, feed on offer and class of sheep enables drenching decisions to be made. Message us for information on how to collect and submit samples.

18.01.2022 Attended lamb marking today at Fernleigh Park near Ballan. Scott Young has been using Numnuts and kindly invited some of his neighbours along to have a go using the Numnuts applicator and observe the effects of Numocaine on marked lambs. Some great discussion about pain relief and welfare issues.

18.01.2022 One of my calendar highlights is an annual trip to Glendemar Multipurpose Merino Stud to prepare rams as teasers. We were a very efficient team today and got the job done in very good time! Thanks Ben & Cheryl for the work. And thank you to my very capable offsiders, Shaun & Sam #glendemar #multipurposemerino #teamwork #efficiency #greathelp #capableoffsiders @ Glendemar Mpm

18.01.2022 Took along my Numnuts applicator and some Numocaine to one of my clients lambmarking jobs today. Sheep producers are fortunate to now have several product options for pain relief to use at lambmarking. If anyone would like to discuss these options give us a call and wed be happy to help

18.01.2022 Im assisting Ag Vic this week with the Avian Influenza outbreak, gaining some new skills in emergency animal disease response in the process. If I dont answer my phone, please leave me a message or send me a text and Ill get back to you asap

16.01.2022 Advance Notice: If youre planning on monitoring mobs for worm egg counts in the next month or so our lab will be closed from Friday, March 27 until Tuesday April 14. Apologies for the inconvenience but we are more than happy to work overtime in the next fortnight processing samples!... Below are some photos and tips on how to collect samples for a bulk worm egg count test. Please contact us if you need more detailed instructions and submission forms

16.01.2022 Whether you have one lamb or several thousand lambs, Numnuts is a pain relief option especially designed for lambmarking

16.01.2022 One of the services we provide is lamb marking for small flocks. There were just 3 lambs in this flock today - the ram lamb received a dose of Numocaine when being castrated and all 3 lambs were vaccinated and ear tagged.

15.01.2022 Great advice from Suzanne

12.01.2022 Yes, very excited about being at this show - however, our stand wont open until after lunchtime on Friday but well be there all day Saturday and Sunday!

11.01.2022 HAVE YOU SEEN THESE SHEEP? Police are seeking more information about the theft of small numbers of livestock in the south west. Sheep farmer Suzanne Lewis from ...Werneth says she might not have been certain 15 of her lambs were stolen if she hadnt done an accurate count recently. Ms Lewis says she also noticed one of her lambs had blood on its head and another two lambs were lame. "Someone has rounded up the entire flock and taken the amount that would fit in a trailer," Ms Lewis says. "I use low stress farming practices, so to see some of my animals have been hurt is particularly upsetting."

11.01.2022 Check out the video of a ewe and her quads in the comments! Amazing mothering and obviously very good milk production

11.01.2022 It's been a busy time lately with a lot of flocks in the midst of lambing. There's been issues with well conditioned twin bearing ewes with foot abscesses and problems with prolapses and large lambs. The better autumnal conditions this year, meant better feed and subsequent condition gains. Maintaining optimal condition scores for ewes, especially the twin/multiple lambers is just as critical in times of abundant feed as well as when it's not so plentiful. Seems I've also been spending a lot of time in the lab doing worm egg counts. Normally, I'm only looking for eggs but the other day I noticed this adult worm in a faecal sample. It's Chabertia ovina or Large-mouthed bowel worm - you can see from the photo why it's so named

10.01.2022 My results are back from the Paraboss WEC QA Program. What this means is that you can be confident you will receive accurate results when you submit faecal samples to our lab for WECs

09.01.2022 It was a very slick set up today for a drench resistance trial or aka WECRT (worm egg count reduction trial). We had 96 (8 groups of 12) weaners weighed, tagged and drenched in less than 90 minutes. Although I was deep in concentration, I was able to admire and appreciate the view once finished

09.01.2022 Heard Scott speak at the Best Wool Best Lamb Conference back in June - he has some wise words

08.01.2022 Come and visit us at Site 262 - we are beside the Festival of Lamb (smells delicious). Weve got Numnuts and worm egg counting displays and we are ALWAYS up for a chat!!

08.01.2022 If youre attending, come and say Gday - well be at Site 262 near the Bendigo Festival of Lamb. Well be demonstrating Numnuts and we have some bulk worm egg count collection kits to give away

07.01.2022 We were pleased to be able to sponsor the recent Victorian Sheep Show in Ballarat

03.01.2022 Want to improve lamb survival rates? Performing post mortem examinations on dead lambs is a simple process yet provides powerful and insightful information on the causes of losses. Analysing this information provides the basis of improvement strategies for lamb survival in subsequent lambings. We can show you how - to make an appointment for a consultation, give us a call, send a message or an email.

02.01.2022 In a nutshell, retain older performing ewes and cull twice dry younger underperforming ewes

02.01.2022 If youre planning on using Numnuts at lamb marking this year, now is a good time to place orders to ensure supply.

01.01.2022 An interesting article summarising a recent webinar I attended which was delivered by respected colleague Dr Paul Nilon
