22.01.2022 INTRODUCING SUMMER SCHOOL FACULTY MEMBER.... MR ANDREW WRIGHT Melbourne-born Andrew Wright began dancing at Christine Waters School of Dance in 1990 before comp...leting his VCE and dance training at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School. He graduated in 2000 and was awarded The Anne Wooliams Award for Excellence in Dance. In 2001 Andrew was accepted into The Australian Ballet School and during his time there had the opportunity to study with The National Ballet School of Canada and the School of American Ballet as an exchange student. After graduating from The Australian Ballet School as dux of the class of 2003, Andrew joined The Australian Ballet in 2004. In 2007 he traveled to Europe on a professional development scholarship from the company. He was promoted to coryphée in 2008 and to soloist for the 2011 season. 2008 also saw him nominated for the Telstra Dancer of the Year Award. In 2010 he guested in the USA at the Oregon Ballet Theater's gala, performing the Act III pas de deux from The Sleeping Beauty. Andrew was the guest principal artist for The Dancers Company regional tours for both 2011 and 2013, performing principal roles in Don Quixote, Paquita and Act III Swan Lake. He was also guest artist in 2015 with the Royal New Zealand Ballet, performing the role of Basilio for their national tour of Don Quixote. In his time with The Australian Ballet, Andrew has performed extensively both nationally and internationally in a vast array of works and roles spanning the company’s broad classical and contemporary repertoire. Andrew is the 2015/2016 Philanthropy Ambassador for The Australian Ballet and was personally invited to join the Young Ambassador Board by Sarah Murdoch and is currently undertaking the Graduate Diploma of Elite Dance Instruction at The Australian Ballet School. Kevin is a current Principal of The Australian Ballet and was the Winner of the 2017 Helpmann Award for ‘Best Male Dancer’, the 2008 Telstra Ballet Dancer Award and the Khitercs Hirai Foundation Scholarship in 2007. Born in Perth, Kevin commenced his dance training at the age of seven with the Shirley Farrell Academy of Dance. In 2002 he graduated from The Australian Ballet School; he joined The Australian Ballet in 2003 and was promoted to principal artist in 2010. In his time with the company, he has performed many lead roles in both classical and contemporary works by choreographers including John Neumeier, Alexei Ratmansky, Wayne McGregor, Jií Kylián and Graeme Murphy. Kevin enjoys the technique and artistry demanded by many different works but holds the story ballet closest to his heart. Repertoire highlights include Vaslav Nijinsky in John Neumeier's Nijinsky 2016, Prince Désiré in David McAllister's The Sleeping Beauty 2015, Albrecht in Maina Gielgud’s Giselle 2015, Oberon in Sir Frederick Ashton’s The Dream 2015, Onegin and Lenksy in John Cranko’s Onegin 2012, des Grieux in Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s Manon 2014 & 2008, Prince Siegfried in Graeme Murphy’s Swan Lake 2014, 2013, 2009, Romeo in Graeme Murphy's Romeo & Juliet 2011, Jerome Robbins’ A Suite of Dances 2008 and George Balanchine’s Apollo 2007. Kevin has performed as guest artist with Houston Ballet and the American Ballet Theatre and holds holds a Vocational Graduate Diploma in Elite Dance Instruction from The Australian Ballet School. 15.01.2022 2018 GRMC SUMMER SCHOOL FACULTY... DANIEL ROBERTS Daniel is a professional dancer from Melbourne. ... Daniel completed his high school education at The Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School before continuing his dance training at The Australian Ballet School. He graduated from The Australian Ballet School in 2008 with an Advanced Diploma in Dance and an Advanced Diploma in Choreography, making him the rst student in the School’s history to graduate with two Diplomas. He then danced with The Singapore Dance Theatre for their 2009 and 2010 Season’s, before accepting a contract with The West Australian Ballet where he danced many Principal Roles and was promoted to Soloist in 2014. In January 2015 Daniel joined The Sydney Dance Company, under the directorship of Rafael Bonachela. He danced with the Sydney Dance Company all over Australia and the World, touring internationally to Europe, Asia, South America and North America. Daniel took his nal bow with the Sydney Dance Company at the Joyce Theatre in New York City in March 2017. Daniel is currently freelance teaching in Melbourne and looks forward to working with students of The Academy of Classical Ballet and the Grampians Region Master Classes! 08.01.2022 MASTER CLASSES with TERESE POWER Sunday 26th March BOOK NOW! - www.trybooking.com/KJKZ Terese was born in Newcastle, NSW and trained with the Tessa Maunder Scho...ol of Ballet before joining the Australian Ballet School in 1973. She was the recipient of the Pavlova Scholarship in 1974 and a scholarship to the Kirov Ballet School in 1979. She graduated after 2 years and was accepted into The Australian Ballet Company rising to Principal status in 1985. She has danced over 60 ballets as a Soloist and Principal, the favourites and most recognised being Eugene Onegin, Sleeping Beauty-The Bluebird Pas de Deux, Coppelia- Swanhilda, Don Quixote-Kitri and Juliet in Cranko’s Romeo & Juliet Terese has danced with many esteemed male partners such as Paul de Masson, Gary Norman, Dale Baker, John Meehan, Jonathan Kelly and Steven Heathcote and was fortunate to work with the late great Kelvin Coe and David Ashmole. She guested with Royal New Zealand Ballet and Queensland Ballet and travelled the world including USA, UK, Philippines, Indonesia, Greece, Turkey, Israel and China performing with the Australian Ballet. After retiring from dancing in 1987 to start a family she began teaching at the National Theatre Ballet School in both the Junior and Full Time programmes, VCA & VCASS, Dance World 301 and the Conservatoire of Dance. Terese gained her VICFIT qualification in 1994, Advanced Certificate in Visual&Performing Arts from RMIT in 1985 and Certificate 1V in Workplace Assessment & Training 2004. In the years from 2004-2010 she was Director & Practice Manager of DMA Clinical Pilates & Physiotherapy in South Yarra . In 2010 Terese made her transition from teacher to Ballet Administrator of the National Theatre Ballet School, a post she held for 4 years. She has hosted many international & national students as a homestay mum during this time. A highlight for Terese was to be invited to join the Australian Ballet in 2012 for their 50th Birthday celebrations and performing the role of the Nurse in Eugene Onegin and also creating a new role of Prince Siegfried’s Babushka nurse in the premier of Stephen Baynes Swan Lake’ In 2016 Terese returned to Australian Ballet reprising her role as the nurse in "Swan Lake" & in 2017 will take part in Graeme Murphy's "Nutcracker" After a short sabbatical Terese is pleased to return to teaching and looks forward to developing & nurturing the next generation of dancers.
