13.01.2022 You'll find plants, popcorn, pre-loved clothes, books, toys, games and bric a brac at the Ballina Region for Refugees market stall this Sunday at Fripp Oval, Ballina. All takings are used to help refugees and people seeking asylum.

06.01.2022 Zaki Haidari, RACS Ambassador, has just been announced as a top ten finalist in the Australian Human Rights Commission's Human Rights Heroes Awards. Zaki escaped the Taliban arriving in Australia, alone and seeking asylum, more than eight years ago. Since then, he has risen as a public voice for people seeking asylum and refugees. Through his work as a Community Advocate for RACS, Zaki has travelled to Canberra and spoken directly to politicians about his lived experi...ence, calling for policy reform. He has made numerous media appearances highlighting the challenges facing the refugee community and has appeared on a number of panels. Most recently, Zaki appeared on ABC TV's Q+A to ask a panel of politicians and economic experts whether refugees and people seeking asylum would continue to be left behind in the 2020 budget. After the budget was announced, it was clear no supports would be put in place for people seeking asylum and temporary protection visas would continue as policy. In response, Zaki pledged to run 500km to raise awareness of temporary protection visas and to raise funds for RACS. All of this, whilst Zaki himself continues to face the adversity of being on a temporary protection visa himself. Zaki, for years now you have been advocating for the rights of people seeking asylum. Your strength, courage and leadership is an inspiration to everyone who meets you and you absolutely deserve this recognition. Thank you for everything you do for men, women and children seeking protection. This year, the Human Rights Heroes Awards will be acknowledging their top 10 Human Rights Heroes, instead of choosing just one winner.
