16.01.2022 WARNING... LONG POST!!! As most of you are aware, Cairns Cupid’s Undie Run was cancelled on Friday. The Children’s Tumour Foundation after much consideration, cancelled Cupid’s Undie Run throughout Australia to help stop the spread of Coronavirus. Cupid’s Undie Run is the largest fundraising event for the CFT, so you can only imagine the huge impact this will have on a charity that has little support from the government and relies heavily on events like this to raise much ne...eded funds. In my head I understand that this was the logical decision that needed to be made however in my heart I wanted our event to go ahead. As a mum of an NF hero, I am his advocate and being race Director for Cupid’s Undie run here in cairns gave me an amazing opportunity to raise awareness for Neurofibromatosis and funds for the Children’s Tumour Foundation. With the event being cancelled, the guilt set in and I was devastated that this opportunity had been swept out from under me especially with the blood, sweat and tears that goes into organising it. On Friday night after getting the news, we went out for dinner. I didn’t really want to be out in public as I was self loathing at my own pity party. At the restaurant they had the World’s Greatest Shave event where a number of awesome human beings decided to raise money by colouring or shaving their hair. Our kids were very curious in what was unfolding and we explained that people with cancer undergo treatments that can make them lose their hair and that the people colouring and shaving their hair were helping to raise money for those affected with cancer. I was very quickly pulled out of my self indulging pity party when my NF hero declared, he too wanted to be brave and shave! Such a selfless act of kindness displayed by a 6 year old. It did take a few days of persistence (trying to con mum into letting him go bald) but anyone who knows our Darcy, knows persistence is One of his key strengths! And this happened on Sunday night... Darcy has shown me that I don’t need a ‘formal event’ like Cupid’s Undie Run to be his advocate. I can raise awareness of NF everyday, I can help raise funds for the CTF throughout the year, I can post an NF fact on our Facebook page, I can tell a friend, family member or acquaintance about my NF hero... I can take advantage of any opportunity and make the most of it. Thank you to everyone who has followed our page, who have registered for our Cupid’s event, who have raised funds for the CTF, who have liked, shared and commented on posts, who have spread the word about Cupid’s Undie Run, NF and the CTF! We hope you will continue to support us in our quest to conquer NF and raise much needed funds for the CTF
