25.01.2022 HAWKER SCHOLARSHIPS The 2021 C.A.S. Hawker Scholarships open on Monday 7th December and close on Friday 8th January 2021. C.A.S. Hawker Scholarships are one of the most generous privately funded scholarships available to undergraduate students in Australia. Each residential scholarship is valued at up to $60,000 over three years. The scholarships are available to all Australian students. The majority have been awarded to students entering their first year of university. Selec...tion is largely based on personal qualities and demonstrated leadership as well as academic ability. Undergraduate Hawker Scholars are able to attend a range of Australian educational institutions. The Charles Hawker Scholarship perpetuates the memory of scholar, soldier and pastoralist Charles Allan Seymour Hawker and commemorates the achievements of one of Australia’s most respected statesmen. C.A.S. Hawker Scholarships have been presented by Governors-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Major General Michael Jeffery AC, Australia’s Chief Scientist Professor Ian Chubb AC, South Australian Premier Hon Jay Weatherill MP, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon David Hawker AO, Australian of the Year Dr Richard Harris SC OAM and Director of the Australian War Memorial Dr. Brendan Nelson AO. 23.01.2022 CREATIVE ARTS WITH YEAR 5/ 6 Year 5/6 have been using the Moorambilla Magic Modules. Recently they have learnt to draw Murray Cod and Turtles with Frank Wright a famous Walgett artist. They have sang along with Opera Singer Hannah Fraser (Mezzo Soprano) singer. And are learning the Charleston with Jacob Williams who has worked with Queensland Ballet and They Sydney Dance Company. They are enjoying these opportunities.

19.01.2022 NAMING OF SWAMPY THE FROG. Today Year 3/ 4 were invited to the official naming ceremony of 'Swampy' the Frog in the main street. Jyziah from Year 3/ 4 had won the naming competition run by the Balranald Shire Council. Students then had the opportunity to work in the field looking at the quality of the water that Swampy's relatives live in.... Year 3/ 4 really enjoyed getting out in the field and getting their hands dirty.

19.01.2022 REMEMBRANCE DAY 2020. The Balranald Central School school community assembled today to pay our respects to the fallen. At the end of the ceremony students were asked to sign a pledge- the words of which are written below.... "I am young and I am worthy, I am brave and I am strong. I can truly make a difference; my path is up to me. This is my commitment- To be the best that I can be."

17.01.2022 YEAR 5/6 IN THE KITCHEN. YEAR 5/6 cooked with an Italian theme today. They cooked Homemade fettuccine with bolognese sauce, homemade gnocchi with creamy pea and bacon sauce, folded pizza, risotto, chicken cacciatore and waffles with homemade ice cream and chocolate sauce. Thank you to Nella Pappa and Mim for their guidance and cooking skills today.... Great work Year 5/ 6!

14.01.2022 UPDATE ON AUSSIE HERO QUILTS. In 2019 students in our Primary classes learnt to sew with Mrs Linnett. Each class completed a special quilt top. The 4 quilt tops were donated to Aussie Hero Quilts, a volunteer organisation that makes and donates quilts to Australian Defence Force personal. This week the quilt top created by 2019 Kindergarten has been completed and sent off to its recipient. It's the amazing quilt with the Australian flag and Aboriginal print borders that is t...he first quilt pictured in the blog. Great work Kids!!! Last term Mrs Linnett ran a sewing group during lunch breaks. Girls from year 1 completed a quilt that was dispatched to its recipient this week. It is the second quilt displayed in the blog link. 12.01.2022 5/ 6 IRON CHEF CHALLENGE. 5/6 competed in an Iron Chef Challenge on Friday. This competition was set up by our Prac Teacher Sam Bunt for his last day. Student cooked in pairs and 2 food groups were set up. One group had pasta, chicken, honey and coriander. The other group had pastry, beef, mince, potatoes and mint. ... The competition was strong and the 3 judges were very full! You may need to catch up with a 5/6 student to find out who won!

11.01.2022 A big week for our Year 12 Design and Technology class with the submission of their Major Works for marking. They have been spending all year designing and building project. In a year where there have been major challenges for this class, it was great to see them finally complete their works and their folios. These works form 60% of their Design and Technology HSC Examination mark. Great work Year 12!

08.01.2022 WEEKS 5&6 SECONDARY ASSESSMENT PERIOD. During the next two weeks, Years 7 to 10 will undertake a series of exams and practical assessment tasks. It is important that students are present for these tasks as they form a significant component of their assessment for this semester. 06.01.2022 YEAR 12 COMMUNITY SERVICE. As one of their last activities as the 'Graduating Class of 2020' the group decided to give back to the community and spend the morning picking up rubbish along the Sturt Highway. Great work Year 12, 2020!

04.01.2022 STAGE 5 PDHPE DANCE ASSESSMENT. Stage 5 completed their dance unit today with their final assessment. ** Check comments for footage.... Students were required to 'suit up' and 'frock up' for the task. The group went above and beyond putting their dance looks together. Don't they look amazing! Thanks to some Y12 girls for stepping in to make sure everyone had a partner. What a great way to end the unit and the term! 1..2.. Cha Cha Cha! Good job Stage 5.

02.01.2022 BCS CULTURAL AFTERNOON. Today BCS held a cultural afternoon where our Indigenous students and Uncle Brendan entertained and educated the BCS Community with culture and their talents. Thanks to Danelle; Kobe; Tamika for coordinating the afternoon and our students that performed - MJ, Isaac, Chance, Tyrone, Jack and Lewis who displayed their talents. Unfortunately due to the extreme heat some of the sporting activities had to be abandoned. Students did enjoy the cold drinks and... icy poles to help beat the heat this afternoon.
