23.01.2022 Today, we're celebrating #BankingOnValues Day! As Australia's first member of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values, we are proud to be a part of an important and necessary movement. Why? Because more than ever, this year has shown us how connected humans and nature are.... The banking on values movement has always recognised this interconnection. That’s why we use the money from our customers to only finance progressive businesses that take care of people and the planet, wherever they are in the world.

20.01.2022 Australia is the only country in the Commonwealth that doesn’t have Treaty with its First Nations Peoples. Reconciliation Victoria is working to change that Reconciliation is really important for us all moving forward together, says Otis Heffernan-Wooden, a project officer with Reconciliation Victoria. I just don’t feel like we’ll be whole, as a country, until we address the historical injustices that this country was founded on. Since 2019, Reconciliation Victoria has re...ceived two Community Customer Grants through our Impact Fund. The first grant was used for a Treaty campaign strategy, to help non-Indigenous Victorians understand and support the state’s Treaty process. The second round of funding will be used for a Treaty Engagement project, and will inform and engage Australia’s non-Aboriginal community, promote the importance of Treaty, and raise awareness of how Treaty benefits everyone. 19.01.2022 UPDATE 6.37pm: We’re happy to report the issues are resolved. We do have a backlog of calls though, so there’ll be a longer wait time than usual to speak to someone tonight. Thanks for your patience. We're experiencing some unplanned issues. Your app and internet banking may be slower than normal, and our Contact Centre is having tech issues with incoming calls so our wait times are high. We're looking into both issues urgently and will update you here as soon as we can. We're really sorry for the inconvenience.

17.01.2022 Allara is a musician and a Bank Australia customer too. This year, Allara released her new song Murnong Farm and we sat down to chat to her about it. Murnong Farm explores those ideas of displacement, movement, land ownership, and the growing importance of Indigenous agricultural systems. Allara’s family, the Briggs mob, is from Yorta Yorta country, a swathe of green farmland that spreads over northern Victoria and southern New South Wales, straddling the banks of the Murray... River from Cohuna all the way to Albury. Her grandfather’s generation were displaced from their home at Cummergunuja Mission during the Walk Off in 1939, moving from the strict enforcement rules of NSW to the comparative freedom of Victoria, then eventually to the fruit-growing towns of Mooroopna and Shepparton. Allara’s mother headed further south to Bendigo, and Allara travelled all the way to Melbourne, laying roots in the northern suburbs, embedding herself in the local music scene. Read the rest of our interview with Allara below or head to your favourite music platform and search for Allara.

17.01.2022 You know how much we love our customers Scarf, right? Well, they've partnered up with Melbourne-based artist Olana Janfa for their 10th birthday and released a new bunch of merch. Olana said "Since being invited along to my first Scarf Dinner three years ago and speaking to many trainees, I have seen to positive impact that Scarf has on young people. As someone who has lived through the refugee experience myself, I know the value of being supported and welcomed so that you c...an grow your confidence and participate fully in the world that surrounds you. Scarf does this so well." Showcasing Janfa’s lively ode to Scarf’s spirit of hospitality and diverse cohort of trainees, they've created a series of Scarf x Olana limited edition pieces, all made in Victoria, which are now available in their online shop We're so proud to be a part of the Scarf story providing two customer grants through our Impact Fund in the last few years to help them run their life-changing programs

15.01.2022 Emmanuel saw a job with Bank Australia in Melbourne and decided to apply. I knew that moving to Melbourne was probably going to be hard for me... But I said to myself ‘Let me do my best I think I’m going to get an opportunity there’. That’s why I’d encourage people not to give up, because there’s no story after you give up. You need to keep moving. Emmanuel had an interview with the bank, and was offered a 12 month (paid) internship. He was excited not only to have been... offered a job but also to be working with a company whose values aligned so closely with his own. I was very excited to be part of a bank that isn’t there to make money, but to try to change people’s lives. Meet Emmanuel and read his story

13.01.2022 Environmental Film Festival Australia are back! Jump in with our review of Warrior Women by Louise, our customer Service Manager in Adelaide. Wow, I could not turn away. This film leaves you feeling shocked but empowered with admiration for the incredible women that are the warrior women. Warrior Women is a powerful and moving story about the Native American rights movement of the 1970s. Men were largely the face of the movement but behind the scenes it was run by breatht...aking women like Madonna Thunder Hawk, the lead in this movie. It was incredible to see the determination and strength that created the 'Survival School' to teach and maintain future generations’ close spiritual connection to the land, the culture, traditions, foods and so importantly the languages. I knew little about this side of America - my eyes have been opened. Watch Warrior Women and other extremely good films as part of EFFA's virtual festival, Summer of Change. Online now till 4 Feb. Tickets via link in bio.

12.01.2022 This might just look like any ordinary house being built. But, actually, it's so much more than that. This house is special because our customer Matt built it to be energy efficient and he didn't even really mean to! In the initial planning stages of the build, Matt started looking at what features he wanted to include, like double-glazing and insulation. Because of these energy efficient features, he was able to go from looking at our standard home loan and convert that t...o our Clean Energy Home Loan, saving money and our planet at the same time. What a legend! Matt also scored a placement on the Federal Government's First Home Loan Deposit Scheme. The First Home Loan Deposit Scheme is an initiative from the Australian government, making it easier for first homebuyers on low to middle incomes to purchase their own home, often with a deposit of as little as 5%. The scheme removes the significant cost of Lender’s Mortgage Insurance, an expense that’s usually payable on deposits less than 20%. Read more about Matt's build and how he combined the First Home Loan Deposit Scheme and the Clean Energy Home Loan to build his dream home

12.01.2022 On the Conservation Reserve, we've been planting lots of native wallaby grass. Why? For little birds like the Diamond Firetail! The biggest threat to Diamond Firetails is that their grassy woodland habitats are being taken over by introduced grasses and weeds. What they need is a really biodiverse mix of grasses, herbs, leaves and insects so they have food available year-round. That’s why we're focusing on our grassy woodland areas, replanting native grasses and herbs an...d controlling introduced grasses and weeds. Every week, on Wild Wednesday, we're going to introduce you to one of the animals on your Conservation Reserve. If you're a customer, this reserve is all yours you're a part owner so it's important that we keep you up to date with what we're doing with our partners Greening Australia and Trust for Nature Credit: nmulconray - Getty Images / Canva Pro

10.01.2022 You might’ve noticed that we’ve been talking about this whole ‘B Corp’ thing a fair bit lately. That’s because we just became B Corp certified and we’re very excited about it. But what is a B Corp? What do B Corps even do? And why should you or anyone! care a jot about whether their bank is a B Corp or not? We’re glad you asked

10.01.2022 Yesterday marked the start of NAIDOC Week 2020 with this year's theme Always Was, Always Will be. Always Was, Always Will Be recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. That's why Indigenous Land Management is so special to us on our Conservation Reserve, which you part own if you're a customer of ours. It's one way we've continued to focus on embedding Aboriginal culture, history and stories into the Reserve. This year, we supported our very first Indigenous Trainee with our partners Greening Australia and Trust For Nature. Today, we want to show you these beautiful illustrations she did for us. If you fancy a bit of colouring in, hit the link below

07.01.2022 It can be daunting when we do think about the big things, such as climate action. It’s easy to visualise the devastation and imagine we won’t be able to make a difference, when we’re just one person. But we are strong together. We’ve seen it first-hand. In a year that’s pushed us to our limits, Covid-19 has shown us how good we can be at working together for positive change. While Covid-19 is new, being stronger together is not. Collective movements have revolutionised our wo...rking week, given women the vote, and eradicated polio and smallpox. They continue to challenge discrimination, poverty and inequality around the world, taking one small voice and making it loud. Now, the planet needs us more than ever. It’s a big task. But if we all work together, we can save ourselves - and the planet. Our everyday choices, which seem small, can become part of a groundswell. We can do it. And we can start right now. Read about the power of individual action and community movements over on The Guardian

05.01.2022 Wild Wednesdays: What are you doing in my swamp? We've popped a Swamp Wallaby picture here because we actually want to talk about something else: the Toolache Wallaby. The Toolache Wallaby is extinct It was Australia's most beautiful animal until it was destroyed. It was destroyed because it lost its habitat: the swamp. When the swamps disappeared, so did the vegetation. The Toolache Wallaby now exists only in sketches and records.... Habitat loss is a problem and, with climate change, it's going to cause even more of a problem. The Swamp Wallaby has already started moving into open woodland and we think that's because of climate change and changes in land use. On the Conservation Reserve, we're doing lots of revegetation work and these beauties are usually the first to pop up in those areas Every week, on ~ Wild Wednesday ~, we're going to introduce you to one of the animals on your Conservation Reserve. If you're a customer, this reserve is all yours you're a part owner so it's important that we keep you up to date with what we're doing with our partners Greening Australia and Trust for Nature Image credit: Ken Griffiths from Getty Images / Canva Pro

04.01.2022 "Taking action on climate change and protecting endangered species are probably not the first two things that spring to mind when people think of banks. But this is exactly what prompted Bank Australia to embark on a world-first sustainability project for a banking institution when it established its Conservation Reserve." We sat down with The Guardian to talk about our Conservation Reserve. Here's why we bought it

03.01.2022 Public holiday closure All branches and our Contact Centre will be closed for the January 26 public holiday. Give us a call today on 132 888 if you need any help.

03.01.2022 What gets you out of bed in the morning? For Berry Liberman, it’s making a positive impact on the world and encouraging others to do the same. "I don't know how anyone wakes up in the morning and is not doing good stuff for the world and their community. I wouldn't be able to get out of bed if I didn't have that; that sense of purpose and clarity. If it's good for the planet, it’s good for people, and you've clarified what you're supposed to do with your day. You're not co...nfused because if the answer is no, well then it's not on the table. I find it deeply clarifying." Berry is the publisher of Dumbo Feather, founder of Small Giants Academy and all-round advocate for more conscious capitalism. Berry’s also the owner of the Impact Investment Group, an investment funds manager showing that finance can be a force for good, and is part of The Sociable Weaver family, a design and building company creating sustainable, community-minded, functional homes.
