23.01.2022 A late winter swarm. Caught and boxed.

23.01.2022 Same day, same sun, different hives!

20.01.2022 Even though it is winter, a little bit of Sun is all it takes to get them out and working.

18.01.2022 Beautiful swarm down south today - really good size. Boxed up and waiting to be moved to a new home.

16.01.2022 Caught and boxed this swarm today down at Hazelwood Park. These bees were quite aggressive. I was trimming some of the small twigs around them to get a clear shot at the box below, when I smelled the alarm pheromone, and was then under determined attack. Got stung on my ankles through my socks quite a bit. Some beekeepers will tell you to re-queen aggressive colonies. I tend to disagree, and prefer colonies to have some fighting spirit - so I do not, as a matter of principle re-queen them. Aggressive bees are after all just highly defensive bees. They are in my opinion more likely to successfully fend off intrusions of ants, small hive beetles and wax moths amongst other things, and are likely to have hygienic habits - all the traits you want in your bees, even if they can be more difficult to work with.

15.01.2022 Got up at the really early to sweep the bees off the real estate sign shown in the picture below. They'd been out all night in the cold and were quite docile. They're doing fine now. I will pick the box up tonight.

11.01.2022 What a corker! ... Nice and easy too!

05.01.2022 Dropping the first of two lots of hives off at an orchard down south tomorrow morning. Not before I had to do a last minute change of a flat tyre on the trailer.

05.01.2022 Some of the hives out on pollination duties. Cherries at this orchard in the hills.

03.01.2022 Another one, not far from where I am located. I will get this one first thing in the morning, as long as it is still there. It won't be going anywhere overnight.

02.01.2022 Another beauty from a couple of days ago in the Adelaide Hills.

02.01.2022 Call out to get some bees off a car in a public car park.

01.01.2022 Just got this swarm in Tea Tree Gully.
