02.01.2022 A thrilling final of the Thursday night mens competition was played 3 Sept 2020. The match was played at a high level by four excellent doubles players at the S...Mith Park tennis centre, East Hills. The Teams were Warriors 1 versus Aces and the players were Geoff Wirth and Simon Albrecht representing Warriors, and Kody Pearson and Craig Boyce representing Aces. Great to see young Kody Pearson home in Oz!!!! The match started about 8.00pm after a 15 minute warm up. The Aces team got away to a good start leading 3 games to love, until Warriors fought back to level at 4 games all. The tennis on exhibition was of an excellent level with precise serving by the Aces pairing being a feature. Simon and Geoff retaliated with some superb placements and returns; however the last two games of the first set was a seesawing affair with finally Aces prevailing winning the first 6/4. The second set saw a slight change in the momentum of the match with Aces racing away to lead 3/1 with the Warriors team missing a few key shots allowing the opposition to apply more pressure and after a brief resurgence by Warriors to take another game, the Aces pair ran away with the deciding set 6/2. A trial event, the Division 2 Final, was played on Court 1 between Deuce Bags and Sunshine; Deuce Bags were represented by Matthew Nimmett and Chris Solway and Sunshine by Garry Solway and Steve Sidney. The younger brigade of Matt and Chris proved to be a bit faster and a bit fitter than the older generation team, however the players enjoyed the match and were still speaking to each other at the end.
