25.01.2022 Running from October 10 to 16 2021, National Carers Week is a time to recognise and celebrate the 2.65 million Australians who provide care and support to a family member or friend. This care may be for loved ones with a mental health condition, terminal illness, alcohol or other drug issue, aging issues and/or a disability. Caring is central to Baptcare’s mission to deliver the best of care to people of all ages, cultures, beliefs and circumstances. This National Carers Week..., we’d like to honour all the wonderful carers, both within and outside of our community, who provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends. Carers like Frank, whose wife has a physical disability that requires full-time caring. COVID-19 has been difficult as I’ve felt more isolated than ever as a carer, with fewer options to connect. Sometimes I just get so tired. #weareBaptcare #wellbeing bestofcare #community #makeadifference #carersweek21 #nationalcarersweek #disabilitysupport #notforprofit

21.01.2022 One in six Australian children grow up in poverty. Their world is one where there may not be enough money to cover the basics and to have a secure roof over their heads. Today signals the start of Anti-Poverty Week in Australia (17-23 October). This week is a chance for us all to stop and think about the consequences of poverty. In conjunction with The Salvation Army, Chris Demeyer (Operations Manager of Baptcare's Family and Community Services in Tasmania) will co-chair acti...vities and events to highlight the impact of poverty on children and families in the state of Tasmania. 'We'll be literally shining a light on poverty' said Chris. 'Public buildings and spaces will be lit up for all to see.' Baptcare family services, and the Baptcare Affordable Housing teams, focus on partnering with people who need support, in many cases, to lessen the burden of poverty. You can read more about this on our website at: https://www.baptcare.org.au/services#housing #antipovertyweek #vic_antipoverty_week #weareBaptcare #bestofcare #community #makeadifference #notforprofit #tasmania #hobart #affordablehousing

21.01.2022 Have you heard the story about Kylie the kangaroo who was born without a tail? Baptcare’s NDIS Yorke Mid North team were recently involved in a fabulous literacy project with the local Moonta Area School and the Nharangga Aboriginal Progress Association. Moonta school children (up to Year 2) were invited to write a story about an animal who was living with a disability. The animal can either overcome or accept their limitations to become their own hero, which brings us to win...ning story by Year 2 student, Halle, called Kylie the Kangaroo Makes New Friends. Kylie is born without a tail. One day she asks her mother Mum, am I ugly because I have no tail?. After being assured that she is beautiful just the way she is, Kylie gains confidence and goes on a mission to make new friends around the world. Co-creator of the project, Lee-Anne, was thrilled with the delivery of the project. I hoped that the project would assist young children to develop acceptance and knowledge about disability in our region, while also involving their parents and the Nharangga community, and I think we achieved these aims. You can read more about the literacy project on our website at https://www.baptcare.org.au//baptcares-moonta-school-liter or about Baptcare’s disability services at https://www.baptcare.org.au//supporting-people-with-a-disa #weareBaptcare #disability #community #bestofcare #notforprofit #nharanggabanggara

21.01.2022 Today, on Remembrance Day, we celebrate and honour those who gave everything so that we might know peace, unity and freedom. We reflect on their sacrifices and pay tribute to those who have served, are serving and those who gave their lives for us to be able to live the lives we do today. ... 'In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.’ In Flanders Fields by John McCrae #lestweforget #remembranceday2020

18.01.2022 Wattle Grove Residential Aged Care Community turned 2 this week! They decided to share the celebratory love of Carers Week with some of their favourite frontline workers. Wattle Grove staff and residents joined in this mission of care. They wrote a beautiful thank you card for all frontline workers - doctors, nurses, clerks and support staff - including a heartfelt message of appreciation for their work. Wattle Grove staff rode the Baptcare bus to deliver these handwritte...n cards and boxes of cupcakes to surprise the staff at The Emergency Department at the Northern Hospital, The Austin Hospital and the Epping and Thomastown Ambulance Victoria units. We were cooing over the residents signatures on the card! So beautiful said one of the nurses from The Northern Hospital. Other workers said how reassuring it was to know that 'your thoughts are with us'. Wattle Grove Residents and staff even received a thank you letter from the Austin ED himself! It has been difficult 18 months of COVID pandemic life since Baptcare Wattle Grove opened it’s doors in October 2019 to look after the needs of the community in the Northern suburbs of Melbourne. 'But in true Baptcare spirit, Wattle Grove staff, residents and family members have supported each other while following the COVID-19 rules, to get Wattle Grove through this difficult time. Our Front Line workers have helped us every step of the way.' said Nishant, Residential Care and Services Manager at Wattle Grove. #WattleGroveFamily#weareBaptcare #wellbeing #bestofcare #community #makeadifference #carersweek21 #nationalcarersweek #disabilitysupport #notforprofit #austinhospital #northernhospital #ambulancevictoria

16.01.2022 Our chic ladies’ group at Strathalan met this week to explore fashion through the decades and discuss the influential trends that shaped history. Gwenda our lovely resident has always been drawn to the feminine silhouettes of the 50’s and 60’s, although she takes care to dress on trend every day. Ruby is more of a style chameleon and is interested in all types of fashion, while Anne favours bold and bright clothes. The ladies enjoyed sharing personal stories about their... favourite fashion moments and reminiscing about the fashion of years past. #belongatbaptcare #agedcareaustralia #bestofcare #seniors #community #fashion #sartorialstyle

10.01.2022 Baptcare in the news Our ‘Home Start’ program at Bendigo was recently featured in The Bendigo Advertiser. This program, which offers a voluntary home visiting service and practical support and mentoring to families with children under the age of five, is traditionally delivered face-to-face. The pandemic meant we had to quickly adapt, and the program has now gone digital. Read more about how this program continues to facilitate opportunities for volunteers to connect and engage with the community.

08.01.2022 In preparation for Remembrance Day yesterday, our residents at Baptcare Wattle Grove spent Tuesday making a gorgeous wreath out of native flowers . What a beautiful result!

08.01.2022 A very Happy Diwali to our customers, staff and volunteers who are celebrating this very special festival. We hope the festival of lights brings you joy, prosperity, peace, contentment and happiness. Our best wishes to you and your families during this special time.

06.01.2022 Together is our favourite place to be. Wellbeing programs and fun lifestyle activities have always been a big part of daily life within our aged care communities. We cherish our residents and because we know them well, we support them to continue doing the things that make them happy, while helping them re-discover the playfulness of their youth, and occasionally try their hand at something new.... Last week at Hedley Sutton residents enjoyed a retro game of Bobs! Popular in the 50’s, the aim of the game is to score as many points as possible by rolling balls into arched, numbered compartments. Our residents had lots of fun playing Bobs and evoking the nostalgia of years past. #agedcare #bestofcare #belongatBaptcare #agedcareaustralia #wellbeing #seniors #agedoesntmatter
