25.01.2022 The Local Health Medical Trust, is very excited to have been nominated as the registered charity for the border towns of Barham and Koondrook and be included in the barrier draw for the Lexus Melbourne Cup National Sweep. If the Local Health Medical Trust wins the race, the funds will be put towards improving their community asset which provides medical services for Barham and surrounding communities. In 2007, Barham/Koondrook had no doctors in town, to fix this, the communi...ty fund-raised, received grants and borrowed to purchase the old doctors premises. In 2009 they rented the premises to Ochre Health, 10 years on the community owned facility, the Barham and District Medical Centre currently provides a medical centre, pathology, podiatry and allied health services and and will shortly be expanded to include a dental surgery. This development is of great importance for Barham and its surrounding regions, it provides the community with a health service that continues to support the people in this region. The VRC Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour was greatly appreciated in Barham/Koondrook, young and old were involved and loved seeing and holding the cup, meeting jockeys and trainers. The Melbourne Cup will have all of Barham/Koondrook’s attention on the barrier draw and race day for the elusive $50,000 prize donated by the VRC.
