23.01.2022 Congratulations to our Shoal Bay puppy graduates. Another great class of committed humans and cute puppies.

19.01.2022 LIFE WITH LAKOTA: Can’t wait to see all the positives 2021 has the potential to deliver! #psiloveyou #dogsofnewcastleau #puppytrainingportstephens #puppytrainingmaitland #puppytrainingnewcastle #dogbehaviourportstephens #dogbehaviourmaitland #dogbehaviournewcastle #barkersinbalance #dogtrainingnewcastle #dogtrainingportstephens #dogtrainingmaitland

18.01.2022 MY NAME IS KHODA. I’m an American Staffie and I’m 3.5 years old. I’m a good girl and I’m well trained. My problem is that there are some situations in which I can’t remember all of my good training techniques. This happens when I’m around other dogs, especially on the lead. They say that this means I have a threshold distance for being able to cope around other dogs. My humans are learning about some of my subtle body language signals that tell them when I’m first becoming uncomfortable on the lead. They’re learning to offer me alternate behaviours to use before I get too close and lose it on the lead. As I said, I’m well trained; I just need to apply my new good girl training to these more challenging situations. Wish me luck!

16.01.2022 MY NAME IS MAGGIE. I’m a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel nd I’m 4 years old. This week my humans signed up to learn new ways to interact and guide me on the lead when I react to the environment. I’ve become way more anxious on the lead since my 4-legged buddy at home passed away. My humans practised new ways to keep me close and happy on the lead so that I can get my leash-walking confidence back. Can’t wait to get home and start practising!

08.01.2022 MY NAME IS BUNDY. I’m a Cattle Dog and I’m 6 months old. In my first lesson a couple of weeks ago my humans learnt how to help me be less nervous about my environment. In this week’s lesson we graduated to skills to help me walk nicely on the leash and other skills to help me focus when I’m out and about so I don’t get spooked. My humans were very proud of me in Lesson 2. Can’t wait for Lesson 3 in a couple of weeks.

07.01.2022 LIFE WITH LAKOTA: They needed my mature skills last week to teach Rosie the Golden Retriever to settle around things that over-excite her. She’s only 7 months old and I can still remember the uncontrollable urge at that age to jump all over people and to mouth others to get attention. It takes a while, but you eventually learn that there are other ways to gain attention, like sitting still and being quiet. It was a pleasure, Rosie and you’re welcome!

07.01.2022 Belated Christmas present from my niece. Just had to share!

03.01.2022 Give them choices and be amazed at what they pick or maybe not so amazed! Sound on.

02.01.2022 The festive season is upon us and it's a wonderful time for the family to get together, even in 2020! Unfortunately, our pets can't always be included in our Christmas reunions and are quite often left alone for the first time. Leaving our dogs alone with a helpful neighbour or friend to "drop in and feed them" is not ideal and can lead to your dog displaying Separation Anxiety symptoms like persitent barking or howling and destructive behaviours like digging, chewing and scr...atching at doors. What do we recommend? 1. Arrange proper boarding with a reliable and trustworthy kennel 12 months prior to the date. If you need to cancel, they can easily fill the spot from their wait list so don't leave it till the last minute or you'll miss out. 2. If you can't book a kennel, find trustworthy, reliable house/pet sitters that will give your dog the enrichment and company that a pack animal craves. Or, 3. Take them with you! More venues are realising the financial benefits of allowing pets to stay so Google "Pet friendly accommodation", they are out there. Remember, you planning a trip should include planning for your pets so you don't end up with angry neighbours, stretched friendships or stressed pets. And when you pack the car, pack your pets, they'll love you for it.
