21.01.2022 Thanks to the Honourable Grace Grace, Minister for Education and Industrial Relations; Grace Grace MP the Honourable Mark Bailey, Minister for Transport and Main Roads; Mark Bailey MP - Labor for Miller and Tony Cook the Director General of Education and Helen Kenworthy, Regional Director, for visiting our school on Wed June 5th. The Parents and Citizen’s Association had invited these important people to visit the school and get to meet some of our students and their familie...s and carers so they may have a better understanding of the great work we do here at Barrett with the present model. A number of the students met the guests at the school gate and lead an informative tour of the school. These young people were able to show the guests the school through their eyes and explain what was important to them. The P&C President and other parents joined the walk around the school which culminated in an informal discussion with all those who chose to speak with our guests. It was a very respectful discussion and the young people had a voice as well as the adults. We appreciate the time we were given and the event ended in a morning tea. Our students had cooked and prepared the refreshments and some of the students were able to assist the guest with their beverages. The atmosphere was very warm and informal conversations were had that helped to add to an understanding of the school and the community.

13.01.2022 Barrett students visited Balaangala’s community garden in The Gap on Tuesday. It is an amazing space full of local native plants and it was a treat to have Derek Oram Sandy from yeronga pan dancers show us round. Derek shared local language, culture and knowledge through music, song, dance and demonstrations of how so many local plants can be used. What a wonderful day of learning on country!
