16.01.2022 Happy Strive to be Kind Day! Created by Allison Baden-Clay's family to remind us that empathy is not a weakness, it's a super power. The Story Bridge and Victoria Bridge in BrisVegas are supposed to light yellow tonight in celebration. Here's hoping they do.

10.01.2022 Apparently family violence is increasing in lockdown. This is shocking, but not surprising. A toxic spouse's favourite weapons are fear and isolation. COVID-19 has intensified both. But there is an antidote to this particular poison. The opposite of isolation is connection. And fear is conquered by love (just ask Elsa). Are your anxiety levels rising more because of what's happening inside your home than the threats without?... If so, call someone you love. Better yet, make it someone your other half has told you to avoid. A supportive family member or caring friend who your partner has deemed inappropriate (as long as you can do so safely). Talking with them will help you remember who you are. And the more you connect with kind people outside your relationship, the stronger you'll become. Withdrawing may seem easier, but the world needs you here.

The family courts are piloting a project to provide risk screening, triage and a specialist list for high risk matters. It explicitly acknowledges the prevalence of emotional abuse as a form of family violence. Psychological abuse is still abuse. Only the wounds are invisible.

02.01.2022 If you're facing a family court hearing and are a little nervous about cross-examination, tune in at 10am on Thursday (19 March) for my thoughts on how to keep calm and carry on...
