21.01.2022 Catalano's is an institution for many across Bassendean. Long established, this family business has grown and expanded into the retailer sector. Proprietors Nick Catalano, Josh Catalano, Mark Lupica and David Catalano shared with tour guests how they reorganised and reorientated their business into the powerhouse it is today. Attendees viewed their operation in full swing where seafood is received and prepared for sale. They learnt about their capacity for innovation and reinvention in a rapidly changing and highly regulated and competitive industry. Fresh, delicious samples were cooked during the presentation, with an opportunity to purchase products.

16.01.2022 This month last year, we celebrated how our community works with our Bassendean Festival of Local Business 2019. 50 YEARS OF ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE HOFMANN EN...GINEERING TOUR In the 50 years since Hofmann Engineering commenced operations in the familys backyard, the company has endured against the odds and grown. This presentation by Managing Director Erich Hofmann in Hofmann Engineering's theatre room and tour of the factory floor revealed the staggering scale of its products for guests. Hofmanns success is the result of many factors, including diversification and competitiveness, but it can be most attributed to delivering the highest standard of precision engineering in the world. Guest speaker was Mark Williams, Western Operations Manager - Transport & Technology of UGL, Hofmann Engineering's neighbours in Bassendean, who also have a long, incredible history and achieved outstanding manufacturing success. The tour was followed by an interactive discussion with Hofmann family members and a complimentary afternoon tea. Find out what attendees Anni Macbeth and Ken Eaton thought of the event. __ Special thankyou to the Festival 2019 Working Group and everyone involved and who attended. Video produced by Story National.

15.01.2022 Meet Andrew Mimmo and Michelle Glass. Andrew and Michelle are the owners of the wonderful O2 Cafe, who are the host venue for our Face to Face Opening Exhibition this evening from 6pm. O2 Cafe stemmed from Andrew's idea to run a cafe alongside his plant wall business. Now, his dream to open a small bar and restaurant has come to life. The venue serves modern-Australian dishes, Italian pizzas and pastas, WA wines and more.... Michelle: We want to stay competitive and family-friendly and we want to listen to what this community wants. We have both come from Melbourne so we are giving a Melbourne feel here too. O2 uses as much local produce and alcohol as possible. ___ There is more to Andrew and Michelle's story; on display as part of our Exhibition (with them being one of our portrait subjects.) ___ Credit: Eastern Reporter

10.01.2022 The Bassendean Festival of Local Business team would like to wish Bassendean businesswoman Cassandra Tomeo all the very best with the Grand Opening of her premises for Runway Regime in Hawaiian's Bassendean shopping centre today! When Cassandra launched her online dress hire store for curvy women in April, the idea of opening her very own premises seemed like a distant reality. But that all changed when the 28 year old local won the Town of Bassendeans The Big Idea Pitc...hing Event in June (as part of the Bassendean Festival of Local Business). Now as a result, Runway Regime opens its doors at Hawaiian's Bassendean. The store stocks handpicked dresses in sizes 14 to 22 and offers Australia wide delivery. Cassandra, a mother of one, started her service for curvy and plus size women after being frustrated with her own shopping experiences and hearing stories from family and friends who also had difficulty trying to find dresses in their size. www.runwayregime.com.au ___ Pictured from l-r: Matthew D. 09.01.2022 Meet Ron Bradfield Jnr, CYO (Chief Yarning Officer) for Yarns R Us. Were privileged to have Ron MC our Festival Opening Exhibition next Tuesday 11/6 at O2 Cafe, and provide an invaluable insight into the importance of storytelling in business. Ron has lead a varied and colourful life so far... About thirty years ago, Ron signed a piece of paper that made him the property of The Queen and the Commonwealth of Australia; he became a member of this countys largest legal gang, the Australian Defence Force! Ten years later; he handed back the uniforms, titles and ritual of the ADF (but kept the hats) and he returned to a civilian Australia that he struggled to come to terms with and didnt understand. As a Bardi saltwater Aboriginal man - who grew up away from his country Ron received fairer treatment in a life of uniform than hed ever received out of it. His return to the world outside of the ADF shocked him and he set out to find out why Reinventing himself over and over again Ron tipped himself into other peoples lives and stories. As a youth worker; Aboriginal education officer; community development worker and; a suicide prevention facilitator - it was Rons want to truly stop and hear other peoples stories - that saw him slowly start to learn a lot more about his own! Taking that leap of faith required to transition from proper strong tea to freshly ground coffee, he jumped ship again and found a well-worn seat in the world of the arts! Ron hasnt looked back since; as a storyteller and cultural conversationalist he shares yarns on stage with Barefaced Stories, in schools, in workplaces and amongst community members - using the incredibly latent power found in storytelling, to remind people that WHO they are: matters! __ We hope you can join us for this special evening.
