Recent graduates, Sheryl Holmes and Leonie Dixon from Alekarenge, juggled family life with full time work and study. Our ‘Regional Force Surveillance Group - Education and Development Course’, a collaboration between Batchelor Institute and Australian Defence Force, won the ATA Industry Collaboration Award for the life changing impact it has on remote Army Reservists, while allowing Australia to better protect its northern borders. 18.01.2022 Our students often study courses that will benefit their community. Proud Ngalakan Kayetye Arrernte man, Darren Braun, is one of them. Darren recently won the NT Vocational Student of The Year Award for completing a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.... Darren said he chose to work in Aboriginal health to help my mob navigate a culturally safe passage to quality health services. Congratulations Darren! 05.01.2022 Today we had the pleasure of showing the Minister of Education Lauren Moss around our beautiful Batchelor Campus, the land on which we teach and work. The Minister was welcomed by staff and students across Media, Visual Arts and Health as part of a tour of facilities which also included the Library and student accommodation. It was a pleasure to host the Minister for her visit and we hope to see her again soon.

05.01.2022 Do you want to work in the media? We have a long history of supporting First Nations People gain skills for a career in media. Two of our past students, Allan Neilson and Gilmore Johnston, studied Media at Batchelor Institute and now have exciting careers on the radio!... They work at Caama Alice Springs radio station as presenter and station manager. Allan said, First Nations People can sometimes feel isolated when they go to study, but at Batchelor Institute they are with their own mob and learning with their own mob. 03.01.2022 Batchelor Institute Press proudly presents at this year’s Northern Territory Writer’s Festival through two Darwin talents: Kungarakany, Gurindji poet Mooradoop Aunty Kathy Mills OAM and Gulumerrdjin (Larrakia) illustrator Jason Lee. Kathy Mills is no stranger to the NT Writers’ Festival having recited her work at numerous events for festival audiences. This year’s appearance is extra special in launching her first anthology of poetry, titled Mookanunganuk, published by Batche...lor Press. ‘Mookanunganuk’ is a Kungarakany concept drawing on the waterlily as a symbol of life cycle. Kathy’s first recital at this year’s festival is fittingly beside a lily pond as part of the Nature of Change Poetry Walk (from 8:30am, 3 Oct) before her anthology launch at 10am. Jason Lee’s festival appearance comes on the back of two recent Batchelor Institute Press children’s books featuring his inspired animal illustrations along with Larrakia language. He’ll be delighting kids and kids at heart as part of Kim’s Cubby (10am, 4 Oct). 01.01.2022 Australia’s First Nations People have over 60,000 years of knowledge, that has not yet been harnessed by Australian universities in doctoral education. This is about to change. Two of our high-profile academics, in a team with six other Australian and international researchers, have won a grant to conduct world leading research to embed Indigenous knowledge into PhD studies in Australia for the first time.... Congratulations Kungarakan Traditional Owner-Custodian and Elder Academic, Dr Sue Stanton, and Alyawarre woman, Associate Professor Kathryn Gilbey, for winning a grant to harness the knowledge of Indigenous cultures to better prepare Australia for future challenges.
