23.01.2022 Very special to see Arthur Streeton's "Magnetic Island" (1924) at the Queensland Art Gallery. Painted from a position in Townsville it seems. Does anyone know if he visited the island?

21.01.2022 Now you can WOW someone with a Batuta Gallery gift voucher!

21.01.2022 Detail from a 19th century indigo dyed futon cover - see it and lots of other beautiful objects in our The Art of Japan exhibition.

16.01.2022 Even camels need to look good. Funky baluchi camel trapping with zigzag design.

16.01.2022 Your blue jeans don't hold a flame to Japanese indigo. The true blue dye makes clothes fire resistant, bacteria resistant, and was once worn under the armor of samurai. https://greatbig.is/32bnbgu

16.01.2022 Just one of the beautiful pieces of Japanese porcelain in our Art of Japan exhibition now on at Batuta Gallery in Picnic Bay. The main scene shows a family dressed in traditional attire viewing the blossoms during sakura at the beginning of spring (an activity known as "hanami"). Sakura is an incredible time in Japan - the cities and the countryside burst into colour and there is a feeling of optimism and joy everywhere. As you walk through a park or have a picnic, the petals rain down on you like little gifts from nature.

15.01.2022 Getting ready for a magic carpet ride...A magnificent new addition to our selection of handwoven high quality Persian carpets.

12.01.2022 Very happy to announce that we will be open again from tomorrow (Saturday 2 May 2020) from 9am to 2pm with a new display. Come by and say hi. There are lots of items you may not have seen before, and if you didn't catch the Japanese exhibition at the beginning of the year, some of those items are still on display. Of course, there are now some rules - only one household at a time in the gallery whilst maintaining proper distances. Look forward to seeing you and catching up.

Please take a look: https://www.batutagallery.com/ We will deliver to anywhere on the island. 02.01.2022 We have now returned to business as usual. The gallery will be open EVERYDAY from 9.30am to 1.30pm. We have a new display in the gallery (following the abrupt end of the Art of Japan exhibition due to the lockdown) and many new items on show. Look forward to seeing you at beautiful Picnic Bay. (The chap in the photo with the fish just came off the jetty).
