25.01.2022 Hazard reduction burns Backburning Burning out What on earth is the difference???? HAZARD REDUCTION BURNS are carried out proactively prior to bushfire seaso...n to protect people and assets. They are often called planned or prescribed burns. Hazard reduction burns are planned well in advance, require a permit and are only conducted during favourable weather conditions to reduce fuel (vegetation) loads. BACKBURNING is a technique used when a fire is started intentionally along the inner edge of a fire control line during fire operations to consume fuel (vegetation) in the path of a bushfire. BURNING OUT happens when a fire is intentionally lit to consume sections of unburnt fuel inside a fire control perimeter to remove fuel, widen the control line and stop the progression of fire. The list goes on firebreak, mosaic pattern, strip lighting, spot lighting, head fire, heel fire, flank fire. This fire business can be seriously technical.

24.01.2022 You cannot just ring the Brigade First Officer and say you are going to light up..... you need a fire permit if your fire is more than 2 metres X 2 metres in any direction!!

18.01.2022 There have been many traumatizing images and news about bush fires Australia wide in the last 6 months. This has impacted all of us and while the Fire Ban has been lifted many people have been left feeling vulnerable. It is important if you have a Fire Permit that you obey the permit conditions. Recent events in our area have left some of our young people very distressed and traumatized. Our Brigade also received a number of calls about the fire which we had to follow up as w...e were not notified. Please consider others! Who do I need to notify? Your neighbours - If you have been issued with a permit, you should have already notified your neighbours of your intention to apply for a permit to have a fire. This should have been done in enough time for them to object, make arrangements, or ask for you to conduct the fire in such a way that the impact on them is minimal. 72 hours is seen as a reasonable time to notify a neighbour of your intention to apply for a permit, however this can be at the discretion of the Fire Warden who may determine if a lesser or greater notification time is required. Remember although you have a right to apply for a fire permit and if granted, light a fire, your neighbours also have the right not to be affected by that fire. Unless the Fire Warden changes the requirement on your permit, you also need to contact: The local QFES Fire Communications Centre (Firecom) just before you light the fire (the Fire Warden will write the free call number on the permit). Firecom is responsible for taking reports of fires, e.g. 000 (triple zero) calls and responding QFES resources accordingly. They need to know of any planned fires in an area to avoid unnecessary responses. The local fire brigade as they are likely to be the first response unit that becomes aware of the fire. Your Fire Warden may also stipulate on your permit that you are to notify certain parties of when you intend to light if this is the case, you are obligated to do so. People who are severely burnt on their hands and feet can undergo months or even years of intensive therapy to regain mobility in their limbs. 15.01.2022 So it turns out the reason I've been having so much trouble with the Brigade address is that I have to apply for one through council so that it can show up on the maps properly! We have only been at this location since 1995....25 years!

09.01.2022 The Fire Danger Rating is 'VERY HIGH' from today through Sunday in the Wide Bay & Burnett Area. The Fire Warden has suspended fire permits and is currently not issuing new permits until conditions improve. Please don't light up until conditions improve, we appreciate your cooperation.

09.01.2022 I don't know why, I am wondering if it's a spell check issue with the 'Fires Near Me' App, but this isn't the first time that a fire status has come up as 'out of control' when it should read 'Patrolled'. QLD Fires App seems to be more reliable as seen in this picture.
