23.01.2022 Heres a lovely one!

22.01.2022 We are looking for a new workshop location for Batemans Bay Lapidary Club. Whilst our workshop was only lightly impacted by the recent fires, it is no longer accessible at the Original Gold Rush Colony. Lapidary activities are beginning again, in a restricted form from July 1 at the private residence of our Club President.... We are searching for a room with access to electricity, from which to operate our club workshop. This might be a place where we can continue activities on for a year or so until a permanent location becomes available. In the past workshop was been open on Wednesday and Saturdays each week. If you can help us in any way, please do make contact. Please contact us for further details. https://batemansbaylapidaryclub.org/contact/ or find us on Facebook.

As of this Saturday up to 20 people are allowed to gather outdoors, so it gives us great pleasure to announce that we are able to schedule a general meeting for the 24th June, to be held at the BATEMANS BAY PONY CLUB. Site Address. SURF BEACH AVENUE SURF BEACH. Travelling south along Beach Road take the right hand turn into Surf Beach Ave, pass Ocean Ave on the left, and the entrance to the reserve is on your right hand side. A highlight of our meeting will be an update of our future workshop location options. Please register your intention to attend the meeting with me to ensure we comply with the Gov. rules and guidelines as applicable. Regards Bob

14.01.2022 Today we received the sad news that long time club member John Clements has passed away. John was a very active member of both Batemans Bay and Canberra Lapidary Clubs. He was also a Life Member of the Canberra Lapidary Club. With members of the Canberra Club, John spent time at Mintabie, South Australia, mining opal. Recently John had donated much of his lapidary equipment to our club. This was gratefully received and will be well used. He will be missed! Our sincere condolences to Jan.

13.01.2022 Exciting news! We have received the newsletter of the Clyde River and Batemans Bay Historical Society Inc., and on the front page they have announced that the Batemans Bay Lapidary Club can have space at the Heritage Museum to set up our workshop. They are delighted to announce this under the heading "GEM OF A PARTNERSHIP" How good is that!!! Attached please find a copy of the newsletter.... Further news will be forthcoming after our committee meets with the Heritage Museum staff. https://www.batemansbayheritagemuseum.com/archived-newslett

13.01.2022 The concerns of the spread of Covid-19 virus are now with all of us in Batemans Bay, and we believe that it is in the best interest that we do not gather at meetings and at our workshop for a while. Therefore our meeting for this Wednesday is cancelled until further notice and our workshop is now closed. Keep safe and if any symptoms occur get tested and stay at home!!

12.01.2022 From our club secretary Robert Kolderie: Hi All Lapidaries of the Batemans Bay Club Many emails have been received from Kathy Selwood of the Gem and Lapidary Council of NSW telling us that many Lapidary Clubs have suspended all activities to comply with Government Regulations due to the Corona Virus. Likewise as you know we have done the same also, for good reasons.... Our 25th of March and the AGM meeting due on the 22nd April were cancelled, and because we have no idea what is in store for us in the immediate future our Committee have decided to accept a motion for your information as follows: 1) That our Committee for 2019/20 is "rolled over" for the period 2020/21 and that the same office bearers remain in the same position for the period ending April 2021. 2) That our Public Officer contact the Office of Fair Trading and seek ratification that this can be acceptable under these circumstances. 3) That our Treasurer prepare the current year end financial report in any case, as due by the 22nd April, for acceptance by the general membership via email, and the Public Officer reports to Fair Trading as usual. This motion was passed by the Committee and thus all of our current office bearers have accepted to step up for another year to the 31st of March 2021 when our next AGM meeting is planned to be held. Naturally we invite all members to sanction this motion also and welcome any comments. Meanwhile we have sent an application to the Dept of Fair Trading on Form A11 requesting for extension of time for holding our annual general meeting on the 31st March 2021. Unprecedented circumstances at the moment have prompted us to do this.

10.01.2022 17 August 2020 - Exploring Newcastles Coast FREE virtual geology fieldtrip (National Science Week) Registration: https://www.scienceweek.net.au//exploring-n...ewcastles-coas/ Details: Discover the vast forests of the supercontinent Gondwana. Hear about the opening of the Tasman Sea. Travel back in time, to the age of the dinosaurs and beyond. This webinar will take you on a virtual fieldtrip visiting key sites on the Newcastle coastline with local geologists. Newcastles coastline presents a unique opportunity to enjoy the geological features along the Bathers Way coastal walk. From Nobbys Head to south of Merewether Baths, the prominent rock platforms and cliffs of the coastline record many different ancient geological environments. These ancient landscapes tell a story of major volcanic eruptions, river floodplains and swamps, plate tectonics, as well as more recent changes in sea level and the natural movement of beach sand. This virtual tour explains the geological processes that created the landscape the city of Newcastle is built on from the rocky ridges to the reclaimed land of the inner city, the use of natural resources by Aboriginal and European inhabitants, and the adaptation of plants, birds and animals along the coast. It highlights how different rocks were formed, and helps the public identify fossils and geological features. It provides engaging and accessible information on earth science for educators and students. The virtual tour is a collaboration between Geological Survey of NSW (Department of Regional NSW), the University of Newcastle and the City of Newcastle. This webinar is part of the Hunter Innovation and Science Hubs schedule of events for National Science Week. Time: 5.30pm #geology #geologist #geoscience
