17.01.2022 Definately......

15.01.2022 Thank-you Tamsyn Gladstone for this great photo of Nicky nursing Missel! In Shark Bay, mothers nurse their calves for at least three years, but nursing up until... the age of ten has been reported! How do dolphins nurse their young? Beneath each of the mothers two mammary slits are teats. The calf places his/her beak, slightly ajar, into the slit, and forms a "cone" with its tongue, which latches onto the teat. Milk-ejection is under voluntary control of the mother. This way, none of the milk is lost into the water. You can see nursing from the Monkey Mia jetty, but mothers are unable to nurse their young close to shore as it is too shallow. It is therefore important mothers do not spend extended periods of time inshore with humans as this can effect calf survival. Mothers need to head out to the deeper water regularly (15-30 mins) to feed their calf.

07.01.2022 Bay Lodge would like to advise our future guests and the community that we have made the decision to close our doors to the public until further notice for the health, safety and well-being of our staff, family and local community. Despite the significant impact this will have on our business and staff, we understand that this is an extraordinary situation and we must make extraordinary decisions for the sake of the people. However, we will be offering accommodation to essent...ial workers including doctors, nurses, police officers, ambulance operators etc. Our establishment will be a clean and safe environment for these essential workers to be able to stay, should the need arise. As of yet we do not have COVID-19 test kits in town and we have a very limited Silver Chain facility. It is totally essential that you appreciate that these people are going to work to save our lives, the least we can do is save theirs by staying isolated and abiding by the new laws and guidelines from our current government. Our medical system simply will not be able to cope if the severity of this situation is not taken seriously, this is not the time for holidays, please stay home, stay safe, stay isolated, we love you and value your support and safety, as well as our own. This decision has not been made lightly, as all businesses need revenue to survive but without surviving customers, we have no business either. We appreciate that this might put some people out but this is a serious situation that we all find ourselves in and we wish to remain transparent and not send any mixed messages like for instance asking people to stop your holidays and stay home but remaining open. This virus doesn’t move, people move it, if we stop moving, the virus stops moving and the virus dies, it’s that simple. Stay safe everyone and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Bay Lodge Team
