22.01.2022 Taking an easy walk on the Lota Creek Circuit provides kilometres of appreciation for the diverse bayside terrain of mangroves, open saltmarsh flats and eucalypt forests. These tidal wetlands have vital local and international conservation significance and are listed as a Wetland of International Importance. This is our July post in recognition of #IYPH2020 #PlantHealth plus enjoying the #PlacesWeLove with The Wilderness Society https://www.facebook.com/RamsarConventionOnWetlands/

14.01.2022 It takes a time and a lot of water to regrow healthy trees some dependent flora and fauna may not have somewhere else to wait it out. If we save our forests and bush, we keep the flora and fauna from extinction. A member of our team took this photo of bush regeneration at Melaleuca Environmental Park and a resident of the park. 09.01.2022 It's never too 'latte' to think recycling when you purchase your morning coffee. Pre COVID we would simply hand over a keep cup for our coffee but we can't do that just now. Here is where the recycling comes in. Did you know the take away coffee cups cannot be recycled because they have a polyutherene coating on them that just can't be recycled. Fortunately the lids can be so pop these into the recycling bin and the cups in general waste. The Bayside Wilderness Society would love to share more information on recycling or reducing plastic so to find out more or to get involved email [email protected]. #PlasticFreeSupporter #PlasticFreeJuly #AMCS #PlacesWeLove

09.01.2022 We had a brilliant morning at Clean Up Australia Day! Sad to see so much litter amongst the mangroves but great to be part of a community that cares.

06.01.2022 Bayside Wilderness Society and Bayside Creeks Catchment Group are supporters of enjoying and keeping our parks and waterways beautiful instead of taking bags of plastic rubbish out of them! Until then people can help Bayside Clean Up Crew or our local bush care groups (Melaleuca Bush Care, Mookin-Bah, Heers (Wynnum Creek), Harman's, Stannard Road). http://www.baysidecreeks.org.au/bushcaregroups/ or just be more mindful this Plastic Free July The Bayside Wilderness Society are a group of like minded local residents around the Bay who work together to protect the environment in our backyard and beyond. 03.01.2022 Never underestimate the value of your small lot backyard as an important ecosystem. This little fellow was starving and spent the week gorging on nectar laden flowers from a backyard Grevillea. The flying fox usual food source had been decimated in the bushfires and his survival relied on suburban back yards. This is our September post in recognition of #IYPH2020 #PlantHealth plus enjoying the #PlacesWeLove with The Wilderness Society The Bayside Wilderness Society are a group of like minded local residents around the Bay who work together to protect the environment in our backyard and beyond. 02.01.2022 Some of our group recently met with Federal Member for Bonner Ross Vasta MP to discuss what we've been up to. Conversation quickly turned to the independent review of the EPBC Act, which in light of the recent devastating bush fires will have an increased role in safeguarding the future of Australia's environment and biodiversity. Ross has agreed to make representation to Minister for the Environment the Hon Sussan Ley MP on our behalf, and answer some questions regarding th...e review process our group had. We are grateful to have this opportunity to be involved in the review process and thank Ross for engaging with his local constituents on these important matters! To find out more about the EPBC Act review and make a submission visit: https://epbcactreview.environment.gov.au/ or contact us at the Bayside Wilderness Society.
