15.01.2022 Recent bushfires have decimated wildlife in the Mt Barney National Park. Many of us feel powerless to help, but landholders in SEQ are invited to apply for funding for koala habitat restoration projects as part of the new Queensland Government Koala Habitat Restoration Program. Eligible projects may include planting koala food trees or removing weeds in koala habitat. Closing date is soon - 31 January. More information and the Expression of Interest form are available via Q...TFN. https://qtfn.org.au/koala-habitat-restoration/ Queensland Trust for Nature. This is one way individual landholders and community groups can help prevent the extinction of koalas in South East Queensland. These koalas live on revegetated grazing land, but creating wildlife corridors on grazing land has the double value of preventing erosion and attracting koalas.

15.01.2022 The Fellowship of Artists Beaudesert is a small group of art enthusiasts who meet weekly at the Arts and Information Centre to share the enjoyment of art in all mediums. We are a happy group which has been meeting for 10 years. We would like to invite anyone interested in art to join the group, which meets on Tuesdays from 9am to midday. Whether you're a practising artist or a total beginner, you are welcome. Existing members will share their expertise with you. Below is some... of the work of present members; more can be seen in the Lyrebird Gallery at the Arts and Information Centre. The cost of sessions is $5 per morning. Please join us FAB! members for an informal morning of creativity! For more information, contact Christine on 5541 2811.

14.01.2022 Alert - our Beaudesert Information Centre will be closing from Saturday 9 January until Monday 11 January. Although the Scenic Rim is not required to lock down for the next 3 days, we think it's safer to do so, as we're close to areas affected by recent Covid infections. We'll re-open on Tuesday morning at 9am. Our opening hours will be 9am-4pm on weekdays, and 9am-3pm on weekends.

03.01.2022 Here are some shots from our special 25th anniversary exhibition on 14 and 15 November. Lots of volunteers, past and present, came to celebrate 25 years of showcasing the work of local artists and craftspeople. We also celebrate 25 years of helping local tourism venues by giving advice to visitors. Many thanks to the brave potters who demonstrated raku firing on the night. Quite a crowd gathered to watch red-hot items emerging from the kiln. It was a fascinating process.... Thanks also to Pam Fox, who recited a very funny poem in her inimitable way! Mayor Greg Christenson spoke about the value of community spirit, which is so alive and well in the Scenic Rim. Thanks also to councillor Michael Enright for attending all our special events. Remember our local Lyrebird Gallery when you're looking for some unique Christmas presents for those special people. We have also a lovely collection of beautiful quilted Christmas decorations made by our talented members.

01.01.2022 The Scenic Rim is buzzing again! Innes and Tracey Larkin, from Mt Barney Lodge, have created a walking trail of Summer Silhouette Sculptures, which can be viewed any day from 8am-5pm, up until 26 January. The much-loved Mt Barney Lodge pop-up outdoor cafe - known as "A World Apart Café" has been revived for this special event. See Mt Barney Lodge’s Facebook page for more information. Mt Barney Lodge is a magic destination, with plenty of room for campers as well as providing beautifully restored old Queenslanders and several huts for accommodation. The property is so large that visitors can always find places to be alone and enjoy the mountain scenery, the fresh air and the peace and quiet. There’s plenty of room for the kids to do their own thing. So don’t miss the special day on 26 January, when you’ll enjoy the sculptures, the scenery, the live music and Tracey’s delicious food, which will include vegan meals. Please let Tracey know if you’re planning to attend (55443233 or via the Mt Barney Lodge Facebook page), for catering purposes. And if you can’t come on the day, you can still see the sculptures any day up until then.
