25.01.2022 The annual Art and Technology Exhibition held this week, has origins dating back to the inception of Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School 48 years ago. In the foundation year of 1972, the School’s original Master in Charge of Primary, Mr Wood began displaying student art work as part of entries for the Bunbury October Arts Festival. Three years later, The Bonifacian Photography Prize began and the Bonifacian Art Prize was awarded from 1978. ... Art works by students were first displayed at the School for Open Day in 1982. At this time, art was known as activities and was not a core subject. Each year, the year’s best art works were photographed and published in the Bonifacian and by 1990, art was known as a preference and not just an activity. The Bonifacian Photography and Art Prizes continued to be awarded in 1990 but this was also the first year of what was then known as the Arts Foundation Award, the first Art Acquisition Award. The Bonifacian Art Prize appears to have been fully replaced by this award from 1991, when it was then renamed as the Art Acquisition Award. Arts Week began in 1992, including an art show in the Auditorium - this event would certainly be remembered as the very first art exhibition at the School. The purpose of Arts Week and the exhibition was to showcase student talent with special guests demonstrating their skills in the Art Room and a culminating art show and concert in the Auditorium. Over time the art exhibition has maintained its original idea of celebrating both practical arts such as woodwork, as well as creative art. There has been a long term trend of art works at the School which have explored social, emotional and current political issues. Art works have tended to be modern art inspired and this pattern has not changed over time, with possibly only changes to medium although pottery, woodwork, paint, felt, fabric and objects have always been used. The 2020 Art and Technology Exhibition is open to the public until 4.00pm this Wednesday. For more information on the Exhibition, visit the School website: https://www.bcgs.wa.edu.au/news-and-events/events/

16.01.2022 Today is the opening night for the Secondary Production, 'The Outsiders'! For more information and to book your ticket, visit our website: https://www.bcgs.wa.edu.au/the-outsiders-production/ Playing the lead role of Pony is Grace Satie.... Heavily focusing on the class divide in the late 1950’s, The Outsiders follows Pony and her friends and family through the various troubles they find themselves in. Pony finds herself on the less fortunate side of this divide and grows frustrated at this unjust and obvious split. The Outsiders is a story of breaking down those barriers and growing to understand each other better. "My experience in the play has been obviously a little rocky because of how messy 2020 has been, but honestly, I love the group of people in the production and they have made the last couple of months a wonderful experience. I am so excited for everyone to see the play and I can’t wait to perform it!"
