09.01.2022 What a week! The sawfish, cane toad and goanna puppets are coming along nicely and the rangers are getting stuck into sewing! Local Gooniyandi artist Cherry Smiler has bush dyed the fabric skins for the puppets, while Mervyn Street, Brenda Dolby and Cissy Nuggett are working on the Gooniyandi language script for our show. Tune into ABC Kimberley tomorrow ro hear more about the project.

02.01.2022 The Big Country Puppets are back and bigger than ever this year, kicking off the first of four giant puppetry projects in remote Kimberley communities with the Gooniyandi Rangers in Bayulu community, along with the Bayulu School and Gooniyandi language specialists. Stay tuned for more news on this exciting project! Heres a photo of our last project with the Gooniyandi Rangers, elder Mervyn Street and the Yiyili school students in Yiyili community.

01.01.2022 In the middle of the wet season 3 years ago we spent almost a month making giant emu and salmon puppets, as well as smaller puppets with young people in Bidyadanga. These puppets are still used today - in the school, on the footy oval and taken on trips to be performed with at festivals around the Kimberley.

01.01.2022 Big Country Puppets have hit the road to Fitzroy Crossing! For three weeks we will be working working with the Gooniyandi Rangers and Bayulu school to create a new theatre piece using giant and small puppetry, Gooniyandi language and song. Stoked to have our newest artist Eduardo Maher (also a Yawuru Ranger/Country Manager) bring his skills to this project. You may remember Ed as one of the script writers/puppet builders/ performers from the Shorebird Quest earlier this year in Broome.
