22.01.2022 Continuing on our series of Getting to Know Your Bush Umpire, the next in the series is Graeme "Chook" Glazebrook. Name: Graeme Glazebrook Cap Number: 43... Home Association: Bathurst Zone: Western 1. Did you play the game before you took up umpiring? Who did you play with? I played my entire cricketing career with my home town team- Portland. We played in the Lithgow District Competition, starting in Third Grade and ending up in First Grade. I opened the batting with moderate success and was a specialist fine leg to fine leg fieldsmen. The friendship and comradery that developed within our club was something that I will never forget. 2.When and where did you start umpiring? I started umpiring in Bathurst in 2007 making my debut in a 2nd Grade match at George Park 2 .I have umpired in the Bathurst Competition since and have been extremely fortunate to have the likes of Tony Wilds and Greg Jones among our umpiring ranks. Both have had a great influence on my umpiring career being readily available for a chat in the good times and not so good times. One of my biggest regrets was not taking up umpiring immediately I finished playing I wasted ten years of doing something that I really enjoy. 3. What does it mean to you being part of the NSW Country representative panel? The NSW Country Panel has been a great part of my umpiring career. To travel to the best Country Cricket Grounds, watch the best Country cricketers and officiate with a group of umpires who share the same values and passion for the game is something that I value highly. Every member has a mutual respect for one another and are truly honoured to be part of NSW Country Cricket. 4.In your opinion, who is the best Country player you have umpired? Very difficult question. Nathan Price is the first player that comes to mind - his innings in last season’s Country Championship Final would have to be the best innings that I have witnessed. His timing was impeccable and his level of concentration had to be admired. Within Western Zone Tim Cox , Nick Berry and Jameel Querishi also rate highly. All played the game hard and had both individual skill levels and leadership qualities that I admire greatly. 5.Best umpire you have stood with? Again a difficult question. During my umpiring career I have been fortunate to stand with some fine umpires- Darren Goodger , Tony Wilds and Simon Lightbody are 3 that come to mind. Each have special umpiring traits that I admire including their poise, great knowledge of the Laws and exceptional decision making. Within the NSW Country ranks it has been an honour to stand with every fellow umpire. Everyone has their little idiosyncrasies and I have learnt so much from so many individuals that I wouldn’t like to nominate anyone as the best that I have stood with. Two umpires that I would like to mention are Neil Smith and the late Bruce Whiteman. Both have been integral in my development as an umpire and a person . I umpired my first NSW Country match with Smiffie in Harden many seasons ago and we have been in regular contact since, exchanging stories about not only cricket but also about our other interests a punt and a beer. I stood with Bruce in my first NSW Country Championships match at Exies Oval in Griffith. The encouragement and advice Bruce gave me prior to , during and after that match will long be remembered. 6.Who is the most annoying room mate? No one readily comes to mind. I have probably annoyed most with my early morning pre match rituals. Neil Findlay and I shared a room in Cowra many years ago and often reflect back on that as my initiation to NSW Country rep cricket the room was ordinary but the company was good !! 7.Why should someone take up umpiring Umpiring gives everyone the opportunity to share in the delights of the great game of cricket. It doesn’t discriminate and provides an excellent recreational activity for one and all. Umpiring does give you the best seat in the house.

Name: Lisa Griffith Cap Number: 1 Home Club: Centennial Bulls Bathurst Zone: Western Zone When did you represent the Bush Breakers? Captain of the 2016/17 Bush Breakers in Wollongong. I am very proud to be a country cricketer and can’t speak highly enough of this tournament. Best team mate/room mate you have toured with? Kate Jackson & Grace McDonald. Most annoying team mate/room mate you have toured with? None Best memory of being a Bush Breaker? Captaining the Bush Breakers & representing Bathurst and Western Zone.

12.01.2022 Today's post in the Getting to Know You series is the first (and only) father and daughter to represent the Bush Blues and Bush Breakers. Today we meet Bush Bue...s cap number 15 Greg Griffith and his daughter Bush Breakers cap number 1 - both from the mighty Western Zone. A great story!! Let's kick off with the senior of the two - Greg. Name: Greg Griffith Cap Number: 15 Home Club: Oxford Centennials -- Bathurst Zone: Western Zone When did you represent the Bush Blues? I first represented the Bush Blues in the 1985/86 season. The National Country Cricket Championships that season were held in the Riverland District of South Australia. This was the second Championships held in this new exciting format with the first being in the Beenleigh area of Queensland the previous season. What does it mean to you representing the Bush Blues? Being born and bred Country boy it meant a great deal to me to be chosen to represent the Bush Blues. In these early years under this new Championship format with every State entering their Country Teams it was highly contested and an honour to represent the Bush Blues. The Championships were now played over ten days against all other States, a step up from the old Country V City games which had been held for many many years previously. Best team mate/roommate you have toured with? Gee this is a tough one as I was fortunate enough to play with many outstanding cricketers during my time in the Bush Blues. Many of the players were returning to their Country Zones after successful stints in the Sydney Grade Scene. A couple who stood out were Jim Hogg (Newcastle) and Greg Arms (Newcastle). They both bought to the team a ‘hardened’ approach to the game. Greg with his never give your wicket away and a very strong desire to just bat and bat. Greg went onto represent the Bush Blues for many seasons and become a ‘Bush Legend’. Jim had an outstanding Championship that tour and was in a class of his own with the bat and proved more than handy with the ball. Upon reflection Jim was one of the lucky people who could have taken up almost any sport and been highly successful. Both Greg and Jim were not only very fine cricketers but also outstanding ‘team players’ as well as being humble and proud Bush Blues. Most annoying team mate/roommate you have toured with? This is a tough one as it would be a tossup between Mal Noack from the Riverina and Greg Harvey from the Illawarra Region as to the most annoying team mate. As everyone found out Mal loved a talk with many of his stories going well into the night of his legendary tales and exploits in Riverina Cricket being almost Bradman/Lillie like in runs scored and wickets taken. I still think loveable larrikin Greg Harvey was the winner. Shortly after arriving in the Riverland I noticed how little gear ‘Harves’ had packed and assumed he had more cricket gear in someone else’s kit. As you do on tours in the 1980’s. pair up the oldest player (me) with the youngest (Harv’s) as roommates. In the coming days I noticed how my bag was getting smaller and ‘Harves’ was getting bigger only to discover ‘Harves’ was ‘borrowing’ my shirts and shorts which did not concern me but I did draw the line at my underwear. ‘Harves’ was not required to bat a lot on this tour due to the strength of our batting lineup but distinctly recall in the final game fellow team mates yelling from the stands those are my pads and that’s my bat as ‘Harves’ made his way to the wicket. Best memory of being a Bush Blue? I have many great memories representing the Bush Blues both on and off the field. Coming away from the 1985/86 Championships undefeated where all team members contributed throughout the ten days stands out. One thing that does stick in my mind was the commitment and dedication shown when Neil Budden (hamstring) and Greg McNeil (finger) sustained injuries in the first game. Reserves players back in Riverina of NSW, Mal Noack and Gerard Hines drive overnight from Wagga Wagga to the Riverland in South Australia (a distance of 720km!) to replace the injured pair. From memory Mal took part in the game the next morning after basically stepping out of his car and walking onto the field. The many mates and friendships you develop on the tour that last forever. Meeting up again as coaches, selectors, parents or at the Sydney Test over a beer. Wonderful memories!
