25.01.2022 Recalling when we built the first version of Bonsai Recording Studio in 1984/5 - originally in Albert Street, Balcatta - I realised we have been operating as a studio for over 30 years! What a coincidence that we've just done an album called 30th Anniversary by Fitzroy Express. We moved to our current location in Duncraig in 1995, so we've been here for 20 years.

24.01.2022 Finally got around to getting this page active. We've been super busy in the studio lately. Here's a quick catch-up on what we've been up to over the past few months: Rising star Jason Ayres http://www.jasonayres.com came in for the first stage of recording his new album. Recorded some tracks for an EP with David Lazarus http://www.davidlazarus.com.au Started work on 3 separate (each very different) albums for guitar legend John Meyer http://www.johnmeyer.net.au - to be mi...xed at a later date. World music artist Phil Ragan laid down a few tracks. Top end superstars Fitzroy Xpress http://www.fitzroyxpress.com flew down from Fitzroy Crossing to record an album marking their 30th Anniversary as a band. Quite an achievement! James McLay is working on an album called Finest of Friends - helped, appropriately, by a bunch of his friends! See more

21.01.2022 Tom's been busy in the studio lately with a project for Centre Stage Dance & Entertainment- Perth, as well as working on David Harrison's new album and John Meyer's second album of three, ongoing work on videos of Catholic Meditation for Norma Woodcock - and this weekend he'll have heavy metal band Minutes To Midnight in the studio laying down a demo.

17.01.2022 Tom's been busy in the studio recently - working on recording Michael Blake (The Outback Paddy), a demo and video for BB & Co (a classic blues band), more Catholic meditations, some more on John Meyers originals, and also working on backing tracks for his new duo with Tami Bird. No rest for the wicked!
16.01.2022 Haven't done a post for ages but that doesn't mean that nothing's happening! Tom has several projects on the go at the moment, including the planned third album from John Meyer - now deceased, but the album is still going ahead! This one will be more bluesy, featuring several guest vocalists.
14.01.2022 Time for my monthly catch-up re what's been going on in the studio - more of the usual stuff like work on John Meyer's second album of three, work on the Catholic Meditation videos, and Tom & Alan Lyford are doing some songwriting. 13.01.2022 Well, Spring has finally arrived and hopefully this is the last quiet week for a while, as gigs pick up noticeably from next week on! The football season is drawing to a close and the Royal Show is not far off. Just the usual gigs this week - David at Malaga Markets on Friday and Limelite Events WA at RedRoof Bar & Grill/Chequers Hotel. Time to go out and check out the wildflowers - a bumper crop this year after all the rain we had through winter.
13.01.2022 Recent stuff - did some recording for Currambine Primary School, worked on some new songs for Di Shugg, putting the finishing touches together for John Meyer's second album of three - the first one was cruisy instrumentals, this second one is harder rock and features Craig Pinkney on vocals.

12.01.2022 As well as carrying on with the Catholic Meditation video project, Tom has been doing some work in the studio recently with David Harrison, and working on a promo video for Tam & the Man.

Tom has been busy lately with sessions for David Harrison, Jo Hardiman, Di Shugg and ongoing work on John Meyer's next album featuring Craig Pinkney (see pic), as well as working on more catholic meditation videos for Norma Woodcock.

08.01.2022 Tom's pretty much sorted out the new updated computer and upgraded version of ProTools now. The usual teething problems of a new software/hardware combination have been overcome and the studio is starting to get busy again now the Xmas/New Year quiet period is over.
07.01.2022 Di Shugg has released a single worldwide! A ballad version of a song she co-wrote with a colleague, and first recorded in the 80s with her band East End in S...ydney. This version was workshopped during lessons, and recorded and mixed with Tom Thorpe at Bonsai Recording Studio in Duncraig. Whos gonna write and record a song next?! See more

06.01.2022 Brand new song that I did some duet vocals on, written by and also featuring Di Shugg. When Di asked me to sing on it, I was really pleased. Not only cause its a great song, but it also sounds like a bit of a Scorpions ballad! Tom Thorpe plays lead guitar, keys and everything else :)
