25.01.2022 Here’s our latest bunch of new firefighters who have been training hard the past few weeks. Their practical assessment is later this month. We’re confident they’ll pass with flying colours and will be joining the ranks of the Beaumont Wombats as our newest BF qualified members. Well done Nick, Andrea, Nick, Ian and Stan. Snr Deputy Ed is in the red hat.

The bushfire threat has passed and now Kangaroo Valley needs your help to get back on its feet. Visit our beautiful little town for a day, a weekend or a week! We would all love to see you here! 12.01.2022 NSW RFS Fire Permits Re-instated from Sunday 9 February 2020. From Sunday, permit officers will be able to issue fire permits. We are still in the Bush Fire Danger Period and a permit is required. At least 24hrs notice must be given to all adjoining neighbours and be within the period as stated in the issued fire permit prior to lighting. Relevant care and consideration need to be taken despite the very recent rain. The fire permit indicates it is safe to light subject to wea...ther conditions, any temporary permit suspensions (e.g. due to adverse fire danger conditions) and any restrictions identified by the permit officer and documented on the permit itself. It is the permit holder's responsibility to ensure these conditions are met prior to lighting up once the permit has been issued. More details about fire permits can be found on the NSW RFS website: https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/BFDP For a permit call Captain Dave Macquart on 0402 121 102 Please remember that some notice is required to schedule pile inspection visits and issue permits. Please plan accordingly. Requests to schedule a visit can also be sent via email to [email protected] Please include your name, address, contact details and proposed date to burn.

10.01.2022 Fire update for Comberton and Currowan Fires. The Comberton Fire has now been fully extinguished and removed from "fires near me". The Currowan Fire still has s...ome hot spots burning around the Tolwong area and is being monitored, the fire has not crossed the Shoalhaven River in that area. We are hoping after the predicted rain, this will extinguish these hot spots. Once this is confirmed, this will then also see the fire removed from "fires near me". We will also have crews attending the Nowra Show on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th, so please feel free to come and say hello. Once again we would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for their ongoing support during this difficult time. See more
09.01.2022 It’s official. The Currowan fire is contained.
07.01.2022 PILE BURN INFORMATION who you need to notify before you light up The Fire Danger Period officially ends on 1st April. It generally runs from 1st September to 31st March for the Shoalhaven district. This means that from 1st April you will be able light up a pile burn, without needing a permit from Beaumont RFS Brigade. ... The cooler months are a great time to clear up your property and deal with fallen trees etc. that have built up over the warmer months. HOWEVER.......... You do still need to give your neighbours and RFS Shoalhaven Fire Control 24hours notice of your intention to burn. CALL SHOALHAVEN FIRE CONTROL ON 4424 4424 (business hours only, they're closed at weekends). ALSO....... As the property owner, you are still responsible for keeping the fire contained and under control. If property owners in the Beaumont area have any concerns or questions about a pile burn, please contact Captain Dave Macquart on 0402 121 102 THE DO'S AND DONT'S OF PILE BURNING Keep the pile small and add to it as it burns down. Avoid lighting up a huge pile all at once. Make sure the area surrounding the fire is clear of grass or other combustable material. Choose a cool and calm day and avoid lighting up on warm and windy days (Many bushfires start as escaped pile burns in winter). Have water and hand tools nearby to extinguish fire when necessary. Never leave a fire unattended. You are responsible for a fire on your property. If leaving your property, make sure the fire is fully extinguished first. COVID AND CALL OUTS Beaumont and other RFS brigades are still operational at this time. We have procedures in place to help protect members, but any exposure is best avoided. So here's how you can help reduce the number of call outs: Many call-outs in the cooler months are due to escaped pile burns and chimney fires. Please follow the above pile burn information, especially notifying your neighbours and Fire Control. And maybe book that chimney flue clean you've been meaning to do for ages?

07.01.2022 Anyone order thousands of kilograms of carrots and sweet potato? Brush-tailed Rock-wallabies in fire affected areas of NSW are receiving a special delivery a...s part of a major post-fire wildlife recovery effort by the State Government. In the last week almost 1000 kg of sweet potato and carrot have been sent to six different colonies in the Capertee and Wolgan valleys; 1000 kg across five sites in Yengo National Park; almost 100 kg of food and water in the Kangaroo Valley, with similar drops having also taken place in Jenolan, Oxley Wild Rivers and Curracubundi national parks. Initial fire assessments indicate the habitat of several important Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby populations was burnt in the recent bushfires. The wallabies typically survive the fire itself, but are then left stranded with limited natural food as the fire takes out the vegetation around their rocky habitat," Environment Minister Matt Kean said. The wallabies were already under stress from the ongoing drought, making survival challenging for the wallabies without assistance. The provision of supplementary food will be accompanied by intensive feral predator control. : NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service
