18.01.2022 Chronic Stress. Young brains are particularly vulnerable. Let's look beyond what may appear as negative behaviour. Stress may look like defiance, opposition or hyperactivity. Or, it may manifest as inattention, lack of emotion, or be perceived as laziness. Let's take a Trauma Informed Approach, given this time of immense global stress, and seek to regulate, relate and build resilience through rhythm. Graphic below is a picture of a brain and the effects of trauma and chronic stress on the physiology of the young brain.

18.01.2022 Drumming and Autism Drumming has a unique blend of physical activity, coordination and musicality, all of which are beneficial to well-being. It has been amazing to watch the children thrive and develop to this challenge. Drumming has the potential to positively impact a wide range of people. Dr. Steve Draper

17.01.2022 Our world needs some Tender Loving Care. Crisis and uncertainty can deplete our immune system and drain us emotionally. It's essential to take time out ...to rest, renew and refocus. Please share with someone who you think will benefit from some self care! We are all connected in the rhythm of life. Go well, go gently. See more

16.01.2022 Workshop set up for Parent Drug Alcohol Support Service First time the group was back together post COVID restrictions being lifted here in Perth. A wonderful evening where everyone reconnected with rhythm. We started with the 'Feelings Cards' and 'rumbled' as a check in. We spoke about self care in these uncertain times and the inner strength we have in the face of constant change. We divided into smaller groups and created fun rhythms. There was lots of laughter and fun. May you all take time time to reconnect with your inner rhythm, reflect, refresh and reset. Take care, from Grace

16.01.2022 Enjoy watching this. We had an awesome visit at the training today from Paul Peacock another master trainer and he demonstrated the Bouncing Beat game which he developed when working with a young group of boys who were challenging. Paul spoke about what he does to de-escalate behaviour and he had us all spell-bound. One of the biggest learnings was to remember not to take things personally - that it's not about us. We then had fun playing the game. We then spoke about the skills needed to play this. Would love to hear everybody's comments on what skills you think are demonstrated when you play this game... let's all share...

16.01.2022 Music just makes it better! Enjoy the uplifting beat treats from our last Perth training, pre COVID19. Turn it up loud and dance out proud.

15.01.2022 It's the stories of transformation that nourish our souls. Tammy Smith is a Teacher in Florida. She shares with us the heartwarming story of her group of students aged 8 to 11 who journeyed from anger, classroom disruption and confrontation to a place of self regulation, empathy and community. Thank you Tammy for all that you do for to engage and empower young people!

15.01.2022 The games in DRUMBEAT are a great way to create engagement, learning and working together. Here we are playing musical chairs with percussion instruments.

14.01.2022 Off to a great start on day 2. Talking about.conflict with 'drums against drama'. Great discussion around how differently people react to conflict and how we can look for reactions in others as well . The importance of walking away from conflict and how drums can be used to reduce that tension. Had a great brainstorming session. Loving it.

13.01.2022 What a wonderful 3 days of Perth training we had - our first in about 5 months. It was so lovely to share it with this amazing group of passionate people from Youth Focus, Swan City Youth, Lesmurdie Senior High School, Mission Australia, Westfield Park Primary, Aubin Grove Primary, North Metro Mental health and personal interest coming all the way from Margaret River, Narrogin and Meekatharra. Everyone engaged in the games and exercises enthusiastically and were willing to share and connect. Paul dropped in and showed us the Bouncing Beats game and had everyone up and giving it a go. Thank you everyone for an awesome 3 days. Geoff, Paul and myself will be looking forward to hearing how you go with your groups. Good luck and keep the rhythm going x
