22.01.2022 Beauty Sleep - Is there such a thing? Yes, very much so.... Our health and wellbeing expert Shirllin Ching has this to say:... "Some wisdom from traditional medicine about our body clock, we need to let our skin rest by sleeping early, better be in bed by 10pm. From 10pm-1am is the time our body rejuvenates and replenishes our skin. 11pm-2am is when our liver goes to work and rebuilds itself thus sleeping early is very important for good health. Both skin and body. Beauty sleep is important...I am guilty for not being able to do so due to work. However, I am loving myself by doing my best to change my lifestyle so that I can be in bed by 10pm. I can then wake up early to do the work I need. "

22.01.2022 Following on with our kindness week I wanted to share my toilet paper kindness story. Im sure everyone has a toilet paper story of some kind by now. Mine involved a relative stranger, I met her for the first time through a friend, and I was telling her my dilemma of almost running out of toilet paper and my inability to locate any in the shops. The next day she called me to tell me she has 12 rolls for me. I honestly teared up and was feeling so grateful to this woman. My reaction to this kindness was so grand, its as if someone told me I had won a million dollars . What kindnesses have touched you deeply?

20.01.2022 Cold and Sniffles - Our favourite home remedies... Himalayan salt water gargle - mix a teaspoon of himalayan salt with a warm glass of water and gargle away. Manuka honey - the higher MGO factor the better. Take one teaspoon straight three times a day.... Young Living Thieves essential oil blend - a super blend that neutralises bacterials and viral pathogens, reduces inflammation, lowers fevers, strengthens respiratory system. Apply a few drops to the balls of the feet and massage. Also great in a diffuser used as aromatherapy. Young Living Ravintsara essential oil blend - is another super hero essential oil blend. Antiviral, antibacterial and a decongestant, this blend is the one for clearing the pathogens and at the same time boosting the immune system. Put a few drops in a diffuser for 30 minutes three times a day. Lemon, honey, turmeric, ginger drink - take a warm glass of water and add lemon juice, honey, turmeric (either fresh or powder) and fresh ginger and drink as many cups as possible. To strengthen the potency of this remedy, boil tumeric and ginger in water for 10 minutes, allow to cool and then add lemon and honey. 17.01.2022 Lashes, Lashes, Lashes!!!! Our lash and brow expert Grace Taggart, loves anything to do with lashes and brows and it shows through her work. Grace has this to share about getting your lashes done.... Lashes are an easy addition to your look and give a beautiful frame to your eyes. In fact, most people feel that having their lashes done completes their look with minimal or no additional make up required. Clients are welcome to choose the length of their lashes, depending on what type of look they prefer. Our lashes vary from 9mm - 15mm and usually last 3-4 weeks between refills. Grace points out that the key to getting great lashes and keeping the integrity of your own lashes is mostly determined by the correct application and as such an important element to consider. 15.01.2022 What is Winter great for? * Skiing (for those who ski) * Enjoying healthy hot chocolates by a fireplace * Eating delicious soups and warm desserts (images of warm apple crumble spring to mind)... *Walks by the beach wearing everything in your wardrobe layered on top of each other. And.. BEST TIME TO HAVE FACIAL PEELS AND LASER TREATMENTS! Our skin and laser expert Masami recommends to schedule laser treatments and facial peels during winter to allow the skin to assimilate the treatments and heal naturally. Due to sun exposure being minimal in winter months, the skin is then protected from the excessive sunlight that may cause damage to freshly treated skin. 14.01.2022 Elsternwick Beauty Lab Diaries - When we are down and unwell and could wave a magic wand to ask for anything, what would we desire!? Vena - would love to be bundled in a blanket in a corner of her room and resting. Vena would like for be checked up on regularly and offered warm liquids and someone to run her a bath and give fabulous foot rubs. Of course there will be an array of essential oils oozing out of her oil diffuser while she rested. Another vital desire is for all wo...rk to be magically completed so Vena has nothing to worry/think about. And finally being bundled and pushed along in a stroller out in the nature, just like a baby. Masami - would like to be left alone and only disturbed to be fed some deliciously nourishing food. Masami would take painkillers and would rest up until she is better again. Speaking to her mum during this time is also a must as well as lighting a candle for some visual relaxation. Grace - would also like to be left alone in a dark dungeon and not be bothered or fussed over. Grace would load up on painkillers and rest up in peace until her body recovered. Most importantly Grace does not want to be babied at all. Jenny - would like another adult to take over all her usual tasks of work/cooking/cleaning/shopping/taking care of a child and let her recuperate without a care in the world. Jenny would also like someone to bring her delicious food, give her vitamins at the required intervals, give epic foot rubs and being taken to all her natural therapy appointments.

14.01.2022 Elsternwick Beauty Lab Diaries - How we managed the transition from isolation to work life. Vena - initially was in a mad scramble to get the salon in immaculate condition for the opening. Once the salon welcomed clients through the door, Vena felt more zen and calm. The hands on aspect of her work and daily interaction with clients instantly bring joy and warmth to her heart and everything seems right in the world. As such the transition into work has been very easy and very... welcome for Vena. Masami - was so excited to get back at work. Although in the first two weeks the salon was extremely busy, Masamis soul and body was so happy to be interacting with her clients and performing treatments. In fact, Masami felt that she was connecting more to her clients by a mutual sharing of thoughts and feeling and as such made the transition into work ever so enjoyable. Grace - found getting back into work so pleasant and easy. Grace loves cleanliness and is enjoying following the strict protocols in keeping the salon even more immaculate. First couple of weeks were extremely busy and exhausting but so rewarding. Grace felt the time in isolation brought her even closer to her colleagues through regular zoom meetings and she is now enjoying seeing them daily. Jenny - although her actual work tasks stayed the same through the transition, Jenny enjoys the buzz in the salon and seeing her colleagues so happy to be back at work. Jennys skin is also feeling the love after various treatments she had the pleasure of receiving since the salon opened.

13.01.2022 Q&A with our skin expert Masami; Question; I heard that the position someone sleeps in may affect their skin health and elasticity and may lead to premature ageing. Can you please shed some light on this topic?... Answer; For some people sleeping on their stomach or on their side may lead to premature ageing of the skin, earlier onset of wrinkles, sagginess of the skin, uneven facial contour, breakouts and even back pain. Placing your skin directly onto the pillow not only causes friction and pressure but also transfers dirt, oil, and bacteria. The main cause of wrinkles is the loss of collagen and elastin. Applying constant pressure on the skin over time breaks down collagen and elastin fibres and thereby reduces the volume of the skin. Also pillowcases accumulate bacteria, dirt, and oils from your hair and applied skincare product on your skin, which can lead to skin breakouts. Lets look at possible solutions; Regularly washed and changed pillowcases will reduce the occurrence of skin breakouts. There are special shaped pillows on the market for those who are stomach and side sleepers, refer to the images below. Silk pillow covers can be beneficial for your skin. Silk has natural hypoallergenic properties, less friction and less moisture will be taken. Vitamin A serums stimulate collagen and elastin that prevent fine lines and wrinkles. So after texting and speaking to quite a number of Elsternwick Beauty Lab clients the majority of complaints are: I am bored, I am angry, I dont know what to do with myself, I miss friends, I am ok just feeling stuck, Working as usual from home and not being rewarded with a good night out... WELL Our theme this week is about activities we can do during this time. But as usual I love taking it deeper as we dont want to avoid our anger, angst etc etc because it ...will just come to haunt us later. So DIG DEEP at what your heart desires. After work or "organised time" exercise daily chores etc. I TRULY INVITE you to journey within its such a special time to do so our current circumstances are helping us heal or flush out what wants to come out and allow ourselves to embrace what truly is there for us. This is how I do it of late: Find my feelings and thoughts... I am sad frustrated angry I want to stay in bed ALL DAY screw it all! Realise my inner child needs some attention. (ok create a time frame to indulge and then get the "me-adult" out). *note if you have beautiful thoughts and feelings do the same and indulge play with your inner child Be Still & Breathe "come back into my body" This can be done in 30seconds or 1hour (i rarely go over an hour too much energy built up) Sometimes i use my gorgeous essential oils Ask MY HEART (heart not intuition not brain not emotion) what would you like to experience or do today? LISTEN - Dont judge what comes to mind. E.g Recently I had I want to be under a waterfall and away from here...now easy to fall into despair because physically i cant. But hey after a beautiful shower and in the joys of hearing rushing water gratis sportify and youtube videos and websites of people enjoying a waterfall...I WAS HAPPY DO (How do I know am doing an activity my heart wants to do? 08.01.2022 We are as relieved as our clients to be finally open! Our first time client has this to say about her experience During lockdown I was starting to feel like Chewy (a hairy ape/bear like creature) from Star Wars. As soon as Elsternwick Beauty Lab opened, I was so excited to finally get my brazillian wax and it was the first time Ive been to the lab. I had Masami as my therapist and she was a delight! I didnt know a Brazilian can be this pain-free and the quality of the wax was unlike any that Ive had before. I feel sooooo silky smooth with my new Brazillian!

07.01.2022 Product Road Test Eminence Calm Skin Chamomile Cleanser! Facial Cleansers generally feel drying to me and usually the only way my skin feels balanced is to apply some intense moisture afterwards. Well not with this product. At first I thought I had already moisturised after cleansing my face with Eminence Calm Skin Camomile Cleanser as my skin was feeling soft and hydrated and then I realised it was actually the product that was so unbelievably soothing that my skin was feel...ing so happy and fresh. Needless to say, this cleanser is my go-to product twice a day, especially in winter when my skin tends to dry out more. I highly recommend this wonderful product that took me by surprise. 05.01.2022 Elsternwick Beauty Lab Diaries - What we do to uplift ourselves and others. Vena - loves essential oils and uses them daily for various reasons and in particular to feel uplifted. Vena cherishes her time outdoors in the sun and often walks bare foot on the grass to nourish and replenish her energy. To uplift others, Vena gives amazing hugs (although they are on hold at the moment) and is able to really be there for her friends and clients and either hear them out or share pea...rls of wisdom with them or both. Masami - feels nourished by being productive, as such is constantly studying, reading books and going for walks. The way Masami uplifts others is to create an environment of zen and calm for her friends and clients and give them space to share with her and feel safe. Grace - feels uplifted when her space is clean and looking fabulous. As such takes great care to make sure her home, car and work space is pristine and spotless. Grace is naturally an empathetic person and as such tends to uplift friends and clients just by being there and offering a comforting space for them to share. Jenny - feels uplifted by being outdoors and enjoying the magnificent beauty of nature. Jenny also loves facials and massages for some tlc. The way Jenny uplifts others, as told by a friend, is to find the lightness in situations and bring out the humour and joy.

03.01.2022 Hi Everyone with mask wearing in Melbourne unfortunately for those that suffer hormonal breakouts it may get worse. Around our mouth, jawline and nose we will start seeing some skin issues around. I will be posting a video later however here are a few recommendations : -HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT using any bleach or chemical based sanitizers and cleaners on your mask this will leech into the skin mix with your sweat and sebum and breath and create reactions -Silk reusable masks wil...l reduce friction get at least 3-5 pairs and wear a fresh one daily if you can change it twice in a day even better -Cut back on as much mask use as you can so (stay home or in your car) -Stick to your skin care routine and amp up your mask usage to twice a week.
