21.01.2022 Today I'm visualising Jan D ... With warm sunset tones. Jan was one of my first tea leaf readings. In the end I read hers, her son's, daughter-in-law and grand-son's leaves as part of the #tasseographytextiledesign MA project. 15.01.2022 What are you up to today?!!! This week I finished Part 1 of my Warp and Weft online course with @rebeccamezofftapestry (which I can highly recommend!!) ... Anyway .. she's set a task of weaving some simple stripes (yep .. stillllll a lot to learn!!) With maybe a step or two to in the design... After much pondering and staring vacantly ... I'd really like my Tapestry samples to fit my Tasseography (divination ) Textile Design project ... Even at the sampling stage ... Sooo as ...a side line, I've used the I Ching to inspire some simple stripes designs. The I Ching, translated as Book Of Changes, is an ancient Chinese Divination text, and one of the oldest Chinese classics. Here I have combined 3 Trigram's (I think I'll explore some hexagrams later too!!) For some really simple strip patterns. Joyous lake for laughing, eating, kissing, speech, tasting and tongue. Gentle wind and wood eldest daughter, Creative heaven, take the lead. I'm still painting some colours out, thinking hexagrams and trigrams, but I love how such a simple pattern may convey a hidden message ... As space becomes smaller and the kids get bigger we have created a #relaxing family room for us to use all year round. ... You may remember this rug being made??? .. Every Thursday and Friday Frank has got used to helping me prep #lecturing and catching up with #textile #students for @plymouthcollegeofart !!! He's pretty up on #googleslides, #googleclassroom, keeping my #coffee warm and is currently investigating sources of #ecoyarns for me (he's also good at yarn unwinding and needle tapping) ... 10.01.2022 WIP ideas thinking through Georgina's tea leaf reading. I've been translating some of my participants tea leaf reading collages into digital explorations of their psychedelic souls gardens. For a couple of the participants, they'll not only have a tufted art work, but they'll follow an interated process from collage, to digital images (this image has 10 variants) and then 1 made into a woven tapestry. This image isn't the final output - but the cartoon that's used to help ...me 'paint' the tapestry. ... The hidden, discarded, or 'design note' ... And of course ... The colours will shift slightly based on 1) my yarn stock & availability of yarns to purchase 2) my ability to colour match & dye yarns for use in the tapestry. I am interested in the participatory process of divination/tea leaf reading as a mechanism to generate shape, form, colour and the textural within a wide, but set stimuli (my tea leaf dictionary). The result is a conversation between myself and the participant - exploring design outputs for textiles. At final exhibition, these design meetings, interactions and interations will be presented - allowing the audience and insight into the design decision making process for an art output. It will be a conversation about the journey, and the process ... Alongside a celebration of the participants who jumped in and supported the idea. 03.01.2022 Visualising Rich. Rich is great. He has a beautiful wife who popped over yesterday with a homemade #appelflappen (omg it was delicious M - thank you :))) !) ... Also my geriatric cat seems to like him too :) ... What I love about this tea leaf design process is not really knowing what colours or shapes, or the final design will be chosen by the participant. It make bespoke designing fun, unpredictable and truly unique to the individual. Thanks Rich for bring part of the proj...ect...
