19.01.2022 A massive thank you to from The Beechworth RSL to Matt Aldridge and the hardworking team at The Coo Wee Ride for donating $1500 to us for Veteran's Welfare. As you know this year has been a very difficult year for raising funds for Veterans. Almost all of our Welfare Funds come from selling ANZAC Tokens and Poppies. Under difficult circumstances we were only able to raise just over $2000 this year from ANZAC tokens ( last year it was about $7000) and Poppy sales are going to... be just as difficult. Please support Matt and the Coo Wee Ride Team. Click on their page and donate or buy some merchandise. It will be much appreciated and 100% of the money goes to Veteran's Welfare. Thanks again Matt Aldridge XX Lest We Forget. Alison J. Williams Appeals/Welfare Officer. See more

16.01.2022 Due to Covid Restrictions our Ceremony was smaller than in previous years. Members of the RSL laid Wreaths on behalf of the Service Clubs, Schools and Community groups. As usual the Wreaths from Gina at Beechworth Floral Designs were breathtaking. Lest We Forget.

14.01.2022 Wishing our President John Eldrid a very Happy 70th Birthday today. Rain , Hail or Shine John works tirelessly not only for the RSL but Lions, The Salvation Army and The Memorial Hall Committee. John has a huge heart and is always ready to pitch in and help keep the Beechworth Community going. Thank you for all you do for others John. Have a great day with love from the Committee and Members of The Beechworth RSL Sub-branch. Looking forward to raising a glass together when we can XX

12.01.2022 The Beechworth RSL is pleased to announce that we raised $4062.00 from our annual Poppy Appeal. Whilst this is much lower than last year it is almost double what we raised from our ANZAC Appeal as we couldn't sell on the street and relied solely on Honesty Boxes in Businesses in town. All money raised from these 2 appeals is spent on Beechworth Veteran's Welfare. It has been a tough year trying to raise funds and this year we have raised less than 1/2 of last years total. I... would like to thank all of those who donated, the Businesses that allowed us to put Honesty Boxes in their shops, and all of our wonderful volunteers that helped sell Poppies. Beechworth RSL is open on Thursday nights from 5.00pm for fellowship. You don't have to be a member to drop in for a drink although new members are encouraged and always welcome. It costs $40 a year to be a Member. Our Christmas Party will be held on Thursday the 17th of December, Members only due to Covid limits. Members need to contact the RSL to put your name on the list- the Limit is 40 and places are filling quickly. Alison Williams Appeals/Welfare Officer.

02.01.2022 Who doesn’t love a giant check! The committee and members are delighted to receive a grant for the painting of our Long room and foyer. Many thanks to the Community Bank Beechworth & District. Presented by Holly Russo to President John Eldrid.

01.01.2022 Today John Eldrid ( President) and I attended the Funeral Service for our esteemed member Mick Scanlan. John read the following. On behalf of The Beechworth RSL Sub-Branch, it's Committee and Members, I extend sincere condolences to Bobbie, Marie, Jane, Tim and the extended family of our Service Member & Veteran Hedley Milton ( Mick) Scanlan. We're assembled here today to pay our last tribute to Mick, who served in War, a Life Member and Past President of Beechworth RSL Sub-...Branch and has now gone to join the great many of those who fell in battle in defence of their nation. The following information has been taken from RAN Service records. Mick served in the Royal Australian Navy from the 6th of May 1942 to the 27th of September 1946. During that time he served on the HMAS Launceston and HMAS Cessnock and was on board the HMAS Cessnock in Tokyo Bay , Japan at the surrender of Japan . O Valiant heart, who to your glory came Through dust of conflict and through battle flame Tranquil you lie, your knightly duty proved, Your memory hallowed, in the land you loved They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the Sun , and in the morning We will Remember them. The hour has come for rest. This Red Poppy- the traditional emblem of sacrifice, the symbol of a life given for one's country- links us with Mick. It's a token of our affection and proud remembrance, and we place it here in abiding memory. Lest We Forget. For those who wish to view Mick's Funeral Service follow this link and use the Password 20222 https://vimeo.com/event/122361 As soon as we are able, we will hold a Memorial Service for Mick at the RSL so that we may all remember Mick together and raise a glass as Mick would have wanted us to do in his honour and celebration of a life well lived. Vale` Mick we will all miss you . Alison Williams Welfare/Appeals Officer
