19.01.2022 AMSA Paperwork Just a quick post to remind everyone to check their AMSA paperwork carefully. Detail is critical- we've seen some clauses and conditions that could cause serious issues if not corrected/removed or updated. Note expiry and survey dates and give yourselves plenty of time to apply for renewals. Also be aware that the new system requires you in most cases to hold not only certificates of Survey but also certificates of Operation - two different bits of paper both of which expire and need to be re-applied for on-line. If you are ever in doubt call AMSA Connect who should be able to assist you to understand your requirements - if you need any further help call us on 1 300 89 95 96 and we will do whatever we can to assist.

19.01.2022 Access to vessels is sometimes a bit tricky!!! A few hours in the sun and she’ll be right lol

19.01.2022 Guess where Adam is? What a beautiful morning!

17.01.2022 Safety Management Systems (SMS) are required for all Domestic Commercial Vessel operations. AMSA do some pretty good free sessions aimed at not only developing but improving safety management systems and practices. Our advice is to take advantage of these sessions if you have or are developing an SMS- far better to do so now than to look at your system after an incident and discover bits missing! Here is a link to the sessions nationwide https://www.amsa.gov.au/sms-workshops-registration . Highly recommended!

08.01.2022 KAPOK or NOT KAPOK-That is the Question! AMSA recently issued a safety alert regarding kapok filled lifejackets and their fitness for purpose. You can read it here: https://mailchi.mp/amsa./amsa-safety-alertkapok-lifejackets... The jacket below was recently tested by a client and reportedly sank with c.8kg in weight attached in salt water. This is real ladies and gentlemen- If you have these- its time to get rid of them as the will likely not work. Needless to say, call us at any time if you have any questions on this or any other vessel safety related matter.

08.01.2022 Calvin & Adam flew to Flinders Island via St Helens this week. What a beautiful view! Kedge surveyors can travel all over Tasmania - call us today for more information about our travel dates 036292 5782

06.01.2022 NEW COMMERCIAL VESSEL ENGINE EMISSION REQUIREMENTS Bit of a technical one here for those of you installing new inboard diesel engines in Domestic Commercial Vessels... This is straight from the AMSA Marine Order:... If the vessel is fitted with a new engine after 30 June 2018 that is a marine diesel engine with propulsion power >130 kW the vessel has an EIAPP certificate or an engine international air pollution prevention certificate issued in accordance with Annex VI of MARPOL.. If you are in any doubt about this call Kedge on 1 300 89 95 96 and ask to speak to one of our surveyors who can guide you through this requirement.

06.01.2022 Good Afternoon Everyone, we're putting a call out for assistance. With the latest update from the Department of Education, Tasmanian schools are entering into E-Learning and Online Learning for an unknown period of time. With this change, we recognise that there will be some families that don't have access to working devices for their children to use such as laptops and iPads / Tablets. If you have a working device that you no longer need or use, please contact Kedge Marine Surveyors via Facebook to arrange collection / drop off. We are working closely with a local teacher and can arrange for these devices to be sanitised, wiped clean of data and passed onto to local children. We would greatly appreciate if everyone could please share this post! Thank you!

05.01.2022 Putting it out that Kedge has another great opportunity for an administration superstar to join our great team. Follow the link in the post to check it out and apply!

05.01.2022 Kedge Marine Surveyors-Why You Should Get In Touch With Us Today! We often get asked what our work capacity is- I recently put a new capability statement together based on work we've successfully done over the last 12 months and frankly I surprised myself! The list, which covers diverse areas such as vessel disposal, insurance, purchase surveys as well as AUS/NZ and overseas flag surveys is long and probably why our team likes coming to work-no two days are ever the same...... We have staff in 4 states , reducing travel costs and complexity, and all are highly qualified dedicated professionals ready to serve you. It doesn't matter if you operate internationally trading or domestic commercial vessels or if you need a surveyor or naval architect for your recreational vessel- we would love to assist you to achieve your goals. Call us any time- you and your vessels deserve the very best, and we will do everything in our power to meet and exceed your expectations.

04.01.2022 I asked the kids to come up with some marine jokes this morning. Here you go! #1 What should you do if your ship gets sick? Take it to the dock!... #2 My fave as it works on two levels! I had to line up for hours to get cheap paddles this morning at the local fishing store- it was quite the oar deal! #3 I was going to do some other marine jokes, but my network yelled- no moor! #dadjokes

03.01.2022 When is a holiday not a holiday-LOL! Just a quick hello from the Kedge Team as we launch fully into 2021!!! Over the 'break' our staff:... Milked 525 cows in Ouse. Renovated a bathroom. Collected 33 (huge) recycled marine buoys. Saw family. Saw the Gordon Dam. Moved ships in and out of ports. Skippered and engineered a number of vessels in 4 Australian states. Ate too much trifle and Australian prawns. Went fishing. Lied about the fish we caught. Went camping. Volunteered at Salvo's. Flew to Bathurst Harbour. Had some fun. Were very concerned about family and friends that were not well...thought about others not so fortunate as us.... Attended to electrical surveys, periodic surveys, pre-purchase, H&M and P&I surveys and insurance claims, and conducted some comprehensive risk evaluation and mitigation reports and travelled to customers in 5 states. Liaised with AMSA to keep our customers operating legally... All in all a decent holiday(!) was had by all..and we are back, fully recharged and ready to support our awesome current (and future) customers nationally and internationally. If you have a vessel related matter you think we might be able to assist with give us a call any time on 1 300 89 95 96 or drop us an email - [email protected] and we will look after you.

01.01.2022 Great work Huon Aquaculture!

01.01.2022 Blast from the past! Still proud to have worked with this great team of people- putting marine safety and customer service front and centre in our approach to commercial vessel compliance as we have continued to do here at Kedge. Many of these people still work in the sector- others have passed to other roles or retired. 9 and a half years has flown by!

01.01.2022 Please see the below release from AMSA regarding Extensions for National Law Certificates of Competency for vessel owners, operators, masters, coxwains and crew. Dear members Please find below information to be released later today. This information is provided for your awareness and we continue to encourage all members to subscribe to AMSA Update to receive notification of the release of the latest information from AMSA. Extension National Law certificates of competency... The Australian Maritime Safety Authority will shortly release a Domestic Commercial Vessel Safety Alert advising vessel owners, operators, masters, coxswains and crew about an extension to all National Law certificates of competency. Due to the uncertainty caused by COVID-19, AMSA has taken a pragmatic approach to seafarer certification by issuing an exemption that: extends all National Law certificates of competency and all associated endorsements, expiring between 26 March and 1 October 2020, for six months from the expiry date noted on the certificate; and permits crew, subject to this exemption, to work on a domestic commercial vessel for this extension period. These changes have been made for all certificates of competency and associated endorsements expiring between 26 March and 1 October. This means that you do not have to apply for the extension, it happens automatically. The above measures apply to National Law certificates of competency, whether issued by AMSA or a state/territory based maritime safety agency that was a delegate of AMSA when the certificate was issued. While the above measures apply to all National Law certificates of competency, those seafarers who meet the eligibility requirements for revalidation, and have the ability to make an application before the expiry date of the certificate, are encouraged to apply to revalidate their certificate before it expires. The safety alert will be available on our website later this afternoon. Should you require any further assistance or information, please contact AMSA Connect on 1800 627 484, +61 2 6279 5000 or via email to [email protected]
