Thus, Pro-Sweet contains no forms of sugar that strain the bees' digestive tract. The high proportion of fructose means the product shows little tendency to granulate or crystalise, even at low temperatures and almost completely prevents starvation of the bees.... Unlike sugar syrup, Pro-Sweet has both binomial (bees treat these like nectar) and monomial sugars (bees treat these like honey) so it will not only stimulate the bees but help them put on weight. 20.01.2022 SWARM TRAPS - ARE YOU READY? Set Swarm Traps as follows: # Select a clean 8-frame or 10-frame brood box be it wood or an Apimaye. NB: The trap needs to be ca 40L Nuc boxes are too small. ... # DO NOT apply to polystyrene hives. # Apply 2 single sprays of Beewise Swarm Boss to the underside of the cover; and 2 single sprays of Beewise Swarm Boss on the base adjacent to the entrance. # Dont over-do the sprays as more is not better. # Insert new frames with wax foundation. NB: If you use developed honey comb you are likely to attract wax moths. # Reduce entrance to about 10cm. # Place box at a location conspicuous to the bees, at height of about two (2) metres. # Lift the rear of the hive 1cm to ensure no water ingress. # Sniff the Swam Trap every 2 weeks and if Beewise Swarm Boss cannot be detected by nose, reapply as above. # As soon as bees are ensconced move them during the evening to the hive's permanent location. 12.01.2022 ROT-PROOF THERMOWOOD BEEHIVE SUPERS Beewise is pleased to introduce a new Thermowood glued and screwed super that is rot-proofed without the use of chemicals. The 22mm thick premium grade New Zealand pine is modified in a special chamber where it is exposed to temperatures up to 230 Deg C in a computer controlled atmosphere. Steam which is added to prevent timber combustion, also has an effect on the chemical changes that take place in the timber. The process modifies the ...chemical and physical properties of the timber. These changes are mainly caused by thermal degrading of hemicelluloses (sugar compounds in the timber) which increases biological durability and stability whilst also improving the thermal insulation properties of the timber. In simple terms the wood's durability is increased as the edibles (sugar compounds), on which fungi live, have been taken out by burning-off. 06.01.2022 BEEHIVE REGISTRATION - WA Mr Colin Fleay, of the Agriculture Commission, has asked Beewise to remind beekeepers of the importance of hive registration with the Department of Agriculture and Food of Western Australia to ensure WA bees maintain their largely disease-free status. As mentioned on the Save our WA Bees flyer below, the APC will be reimburse beekeepers for any equipment destroyed as a result of an eradication programme....
