24.01.2022 Another successful day of garden tool sharpening last Friday. We also gave continued life to this 1960s mixmaster.

24.01.2022 Last Friday was a big day of getting repaired items back to people. Here is a selection of the scope of works we performed. We finally got to use our new battery spot welder and replaced a failed rechargeable cell in this Electrolux cordless vacuum cleaner. Then we replaced the globe to give this heater back its lovely flame effect. The reciprocating saw had a battery connection problem which we sorted out. Dörte recovered a skirt by sowing in new elastic.

23.01.2022 Last Friday was kitchen-week at The Repair Cafe! A Kitchenaid food mixer had a chewed-out gear in the gearbox replaced. Two microwave ovens had door latches repaired. And Dörte repaired a good quality blue pure wool jumper. Several seams had come undone, which was repaired with the overlocker.

22.01.2022 An old rocker brought in his boom box for some care and attention so he was able to continue to blast out some tunes!

22.01.2022 Another VERY happy customer. The CD unit in this stereo system had its laser head replaced and once again it's pumping out very loud tunes! Lasers in CD players do fail over time. Replacement lasers are usually fairly inexpensive. Before tossing that favourite CD player, bring it to us and we'll see what might be possible.

21.01.2022 A vintage Rotel receiver returned to its very happy owner. It wouldn't turn on due to a fault in the speaker protection circuit. Took some detective work to sort that out. We are commonly seeing speaker protection faults in vintage amplifiers. If you have an amp where the lights come on but the sound won't come out, we can more than likely repair it.

21.01.2022 An iconic Isis Radio from the 1980s was returned to its very happy owner. It had a cracked solder joint that took some detective work to track down. Remember we do more than electronic and electrical repairs. Minor jewellery repairs and clothing repairs are available. Whatever you have that you'd like to save and get repaired, just ask us. Many things are possible! Last week we even saved a salt grinder that had had its top forced on upside down. That too was sorted out and given back to its grateful owner in full working condition again.

16.01.2022 Busted the antenna on your precious radio? No problem. Fitted a replacement to this radio which we salvaged from a previous non-repairable radio a few weeks prior. Then Martin put his talents to work and re-affixed these belt buckles for a regular customer of The Repair Cafe.

14.01.2022 David gave new life to a vintage Kenwood Chef food mixer. A broken gear was swapped out and the gearbox grease replaced with brand new, high quality food-grade grease, before being reassembled and tested. Plus it had new feet installed for good measure. We are currently working on repairing a number of antique food mixers, in particular, Sunbeam Mixmasters. If you have an old faithful sitting in a bottom draw then we can likely get it going like new again.

13.01.2022 Thanks to Bega Valley Shire Council's Waste Grant Program, we were able to purchase a high quality soldering/desoldering station. We can now do high precision soldering repairs that weren't previously possible, and save more electronics from going into landfill.

12.01.2022 Closing early, Midday, on Friday 13 November for our AGM. Get your repairs in early. Normal hours again next week.Closing early, Midday, on Friday 13 November for our AGM. Get your repairs in early. Normal hours again next week.

12.01.2022 Lots of secateurs and garden shears got sharpened last Friday. (That's David in the background who did quite a bit of that workmanship.) And I finally said goodbye to Gilbert's Onyko amplifier. He'd torn a flat flexible cable (FFC) inside the unit attempting his own repair, and there was no replacement for it. AliExpress came to the rescue with a similar cable that had to be cut-down to size. Now working perfectly again.

12.01.2022 I would encouage supporters of The Repair Cafe to sign this 'Right To Repair' petition. Companies like Apple are designing their new products to be non-repairable; even the battery (the usual cause of failure) cannot be changed. https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/right-to-repair/

07.01.2022 Gandalf was passing through from Middle Earth and donated a couple of non-working Kenwood Chef food mixers. These will be excellent sources of spare parts and were greatly appreciated. Because of storage issues we have to be picky about what donations of non-working equipment we accept, but if you think you have something we might be interested in, please give us a call before you send it to landfill.

03.01.2022 A stylus was sourced and replaced in this popular low-end Chinese turntable. A dress with a torn seam was repaired. And Boomerang Bag manufacturing continued at a pace!

03.01.2022 We have started taking on commissions to restore vintage HiFi gear. The NAD 3020A is still regarded today as one of the best HiFi amplifiers ever made. We had two come in on the same day. Completely stripped down, cleaned, all electrolytic capacitors changed out, power stages re-aligned. After all that work they sound fantastic! These jobs are done on a commercial basis (but still at a very reasonable price). If you have something like this gathering dust in the bottom of a cupboard you might want to bring it back to life.

02.01.2022 What did we get up to last Friday? Melanie Horsnell dropped in again to pick up a turntable. Balance and anti-skating was adjusted, a new strobe speed adjust lamp installed and it was given a general polish up. Dörte repaired the zip in a cushion that had come off its tracks.... And another restored NAD 3020i amplifier was handed back to its happy owner.

02.01.2022 The wonderful Melanie Horsnell dropped in on Friday and picked up her restored NAD 3020A amplifier. We had Melanie's soul-soothing music playing all morning through the amplifier just to break it in after its return-to-life.
