22.01.2022 Awesome news for an outstanding physio and all-around great bloke! George has been a tremendous asset to our club over the last few years, and we wish him all the best for his new job at St Kilda Football Club!

21.01.2022 Despite having a home game scheduled for BMFC Senior Football this weekend we’ve had to shift all games to Stirling Oval, due to the poor conditions. There is some good news - we are pleased to announce that will be allowing up to 100 spectators, with strict social distancing requirements in place. Unfortunately if we reach the 100 spectator limit we will have to turn people away. Please also note that once a participant finishes playing they become a spectator and will contribute to the 100 spectator cap. We ask the participants be mindful of this and move on if required. Revised timings are as follows: - 10:00am Second Grade Men V Gungahlin Jets - 1:00pm First Grade Men V Gungahlin Jets - 3:30pm First Grade Women V Gungahlin Jets

The venue is still to be confirmed, so check back at this post for updates!... The trainings will be predominantly skill based and all about coming together as a group for a couple of weeks before enjoying the Christmas period. COVID rules still apply so if attending please bring your own drink bottle and sunscreen. Training is open to all, so come along for a bit of fun, fitness, and footy. Who knows, you might even witness a @nick_kellly smother!

19.01.2022 Season Update! The Club is excited to be aiming for a likely Round 1 start to the footy season on July 18. Once a draw is released and we have access to more information, we will bring you all the news, including season launch details and the social distancing protocols which will hopefully allow our sponsors and supporters to attend games. Season preparations are going well, with the inclusion of a number of talented young players out of Rising Stars football into our senior... program, which has increased competition for spots in our 1st grade side and introduced a further group of fantastic people into the senior club community. Senior Coach Brock Weston stated We are really pleased to have local juniors including Macca Miller, John Rees, Max Monaghan, and Tom Simpson, along with Seb Quirk and Brendan Egan who played their Rising Stars football with Marist, all come into the senior club and be pressing for 1st grade spots straight away. Max has shown the way with a number of promising 1st grade games already under his belt, and we have been keeping a close eye on how the other young players have been developing in recent years. Despite some ordinary hair styles, they are all fantastic young blokes who are working hard and eagerly soaking up information from the more experienced players in the squad. We can’t wait to see them get their opportunity, and we’re really confident they will represent the club well both on and off the field. Go Pies !

19.01.2022 This weekend marks a special milestone for the club - Lexie Bennett will set a new record for 1st grade games, breaking the previous record held by his dad and club legend Dave Bennett. Current 1st grade coach and former teammate Brock Weston had this to say: Lex is unique in many ways, and when it comes to football that uniqueness is what sets him apart. He has a look that says 'Hey mate, I can help you with you with your taxes', but an on field persona that says 'if you ge...t in my way I’ll kill you'... He is incredibly talented and has always managed to compete with, and regularly beat, some of the competitions best. This can be directly attributed to his competitiveness and desire to contribute to team success. Lexi’s football career to date has enhanced his families legacy within our football club and the broader football community. He continues to be an important member of our playing group with his leadership and passion helping to usher in the next wave of junior players Another former teammate Chris York also shared his thoughts: "Congratulations Lexie on breaking the club record for the most first grade games at Belconnen. You have worked incredibly hard in all facets of your game as a footballer, excelling in all positions on the field. A backman early in your career, shutting down the leagues best key forwards, moving to the midfield in your prime and then finishing in your twilight years as a forward. Your leadership on and off the field has been a highlight and you never asked someone to do anything that you would not do yourself, which is such a wonderful trait to have. You’re a premiership captain, a Best & Fairest winner, but your best quality is the person that you are. Congratulations Lexie, I am so incredibly proud to have had you as a teammate, and have you as a friend." This week's newsletter has more about Lexie's achievement, as well as a tribute to the retiring Ned Gatenby, and the announcement of our latest volunteer of the week Kylie McKay! 09.01.2022 After a great first weekend of footy, we’d like to put out a huge thank you to the Queanbeyan Tigers Australian Football Club for hosting Round 1 at Allinsure and Town Park. Their friendly and efficient volunteers made everybody feel welcome, while also ensuring that the relevant COVID Return to Play protocols were followed. 08.01.2022 We would like to wish Emily Pease the best of luck as she prepares to test at the AFL Women’s Draft Combine this afternoon. Emily has been a valuable player in our Division 1 women’s side from the age of 16 after only 2 years of experience. Her speed and ability to take the game on, along with an unreal kick on both the left and right foot, has been pivotal in our 2020 successes. Go Em!

01.01.2022 Senior Coach Appointment The Belconnen Magpies Football Club is proud to announce the appointment of James Bennett as Senior Coach for 2021. As a 2*premiership player, 2*Mulrooney Medallist and 9-time BMFC First Grade Best and Fairest, James’ incredible playing career speaks for itself. He also coached the team with distinction over the 2017-19 period, making two Grand Finals in those three years. While stepping back from head coaching in 2020, James continued to take a keen ...interest in developing and teaching our younger players and we look forward to him returning to the Head Coaching role for the 2021 season. The club would also like to say a big thank you to Brock Weston for all of his hard work in guiding the side through last year, particularly given the difficulties and unique circumstances presented by a 9-month pre-season. Brock has made a significant contribution to BMFC both on and off the field over the last 20 years and we look forward to him remaining to be a regular around The Nest. Thanks, Brock!
