20.01.2022 Today is a somber day in CFA history. Today is the day of the Linton tragedy. The Linton bushfire burned through private land and state forests near the townshi...p of Linton, Victoria, Australia on 2 December 1998. Firefighters from the Victorian state government's Department of Natural Resources & Environment and Country Fire Authority were deployed to put out the fire. At approximately 8.45pm, two firefighting appliances and their crews were entrapped and engulfed in fire following an unexpected wind change. The crew of one of those appliances, five men from Geelong, that were all volunteers from the Geelong West CFA Station were killed. The Linton bushfire covered 660 hectares of private and public land. The coronial inquest examining the fire and the deaths, was one of the longest-running inquests in the history of the state. The Coroner heard that the two fire authorities involved (Department of Natural Resources & Environment and Country Fire Authority), and the lack of CFA training to volunteers contributed to the deaths. It was this inquest, that led to changes in safety operating procedures in the SA Country Fire Service and Victorian Country Fire Authority. The five Geelong West volunteer firefighters that died in the Linton fire were Christopher Evans, Garry Vredeveldt, Stuart Davidson, Jason Thomas and Matthew Armstrong. Today we remember them. #NeverForgotten

18.01.2022 Today is Police Remembrance Day, a chance to honour and pay our respects to members of our police force. Today, and every day, we say thank you to our colleagues at Victoria Police, and recognise the important work they do. to protect our society.

17.01.2022 Here we go again!

17.01.2022 In 2023 Belgrave Fire Brigade turns 100! We are searching for historical memorabilia from our brigade history may have found its way into your possession. For example photos, historical documents, any nic nac's etc. If you would like to give them to us, or if we could copy them that would be awesome... Could you please PM us if you can help us.

17.01.2022 Everyone in Victoria who lives near dense forest, bush, grassland or the coast needs to prepare their property for bushfire. Below are some tips from Captain Ko...ala on preparing your property: Roof gutters - Keep gutters and roof areas clear of leaf litter. Leaf litter in guttering is a ember ignition point. Keep grass short - Keep grass cut to less than 10cm. Fire can ignite and travel quickly through long grass. Mowing and slashing can greatly reduce fine fuel levels. Leaves and Twigs - Get rid of dry grass, leaves, twigs and loose bark. Less fuel = less fire. Prune shrubs -Prune lower branches of shrubs to separate from surface fuels underneath. Prune shrubs well away from branches of mature trees. Cut back branches - Cut back overhanging tree branches close to property no branches in 10m space. For more information on preparing your property please see here: https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare #CKDoesSummerPreparation #LessFuelEqualsLessFire #PlanAndPrepare #CleanUpBeforeABushfireDoes

16.01.2022 It was fantastic to see all the smiling faces as we helped Santa today. We hope everyone has a safe and Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

15.01.2022 If conditions are suitable and it’s safe to do so, Forest Fire Management Victoria will ignite a planned burn in Upwey between Hughes Street and Tremont Hill Tr...ack on Saturday 21 November. The burn will be around 3.4 hectares and is focused on reducing the spread and intensity of bushfires in the surrounding area. If the burn goes ahead, there will be traffic management on Hughes St between Mount Dandenong Tourist Rd and Olivette Ave during the burn to enable fire crews to work safely. Residents who live along Hughes Street will be able to access their properties. Tremont Hill Walking Track in the Dandenong Ranges National Park Will be closed for the weekend. We work closely with the Bureau of Meteorology to assess weather conditions, such as humidity, temperature and wind speed, and will only carry out burns when the conditions are suitable. We understand that smoke from planned burns may cause concern and encourage those who are sensitive to smoke to remain indoors and keep windows closed until the smoke passes. As this is a small burn it should not generate large amounts of smoke, but there could be poor ventilation, which may cause smoke to settle overnight rather than immediately disperse. Under the current public health advice, our planned burning program can continue for now. If that advice changes, we will make any adjustments necessary in consultation with Victorian Department of Health & Human Services, Environment Protection Authority Victoria, CFA (Country Fire Authority) and Vic Emergency. Our crews are adhering to appropriate physical distancing and hygiene requirements to ensure we can safely continue operations across the state. To find out when and where planned burns are happening near you go to www.vic.gov.au/plannedburns or call 1800 226 226. 15.01.2022 2023 is set to be a big year for the Brigade as it celebrates its 100th Birthday! We intend to establish an online collection and overhaul our physical collection of memorabilia. The brigade will also produce a historical book based on the last 25 years. We have a unique opportunity for you to share your memories we know there is a lot out there! With many of us stuck at home, there is a fantastic opportunity to dust out the old photo albums and scramble through the atti...c. Maybe grandad’s old chest has some hidden treasures that need to see the light of day. We are on the lookout for photos, historical records, memorabilia, memories, anecdotes (the funnier the better) and stories whether written or oral; anything that contributes to capturing brigade and community history. If you want to take part, submissions can be forwarded to [email protected] or ring James on 0466 249409 to arrange a contact-free drop off or pick up. All contributions will be catalogued to ensure safe return and accredited appropriately if published. 13.01.2022 Please please please ask your loved ones and colleagues R U OK? Not just today but throughout the year. Especially during these crazy times. Check in with each other, ask the question and then listen. R U OK?

13.01.2022 It's never too early to start preparing your property for the coming fire season.

12.01.2022 It's happening again. Prepare for strong winds tonight through to tomorrow. Secure loose items around the outside of your home and charge up your phones and laptops. A good idea is to look at battery powered lanterns or torches instead of candles. Hopefully we have an incident free wind event. Stay safe.

08.01.2022 While the grassland conditions are not as dry as for the same period last year, further curing of grass fuels will occur over coming days with more hot weather forecast.

07.01.2022 Please be aware of severe weather warning issued today. Belgrave is in the Central District, please be prepared and stay safe.

07.01.2022 With tonight's windy conditions picking up, this may not be a great idea to celebrate outside. Don't forget when using candles, keep them out of harms way.

06.01.2022 If you are unable to boil your water due to power outages please see details below on where emergency fresh water tankers have been set up for the provision of fresh water.

05.01.2022 POSSIBLE SCAM ALERT : Some unusual behaviour has been reported in relation to "bushfire planning" services being offered in the One Tree Hill area. The CFA doe...s not approach individual houses unannounced to discuss their bushfire plans, nor do we arrive in a luxury vehicle very early in the morning. If something similar has happened to you, please contact Belgrave Police. If you DO want to learn about bushfire planning FOR FREE, we're only too happy to help ... drop in at the fire station in Clarkmont Road on any Sunday morning, contact us via Facebook or email: [email protected] See more

04.01.2022 With the up and coming fire season upon us, we have been notified that we can recommence some pre season training. All training will be conducted within the strict guidelines set out by the Chief Health Officer. So if you see us out and about you will understand why? Stay Safe everyone.
